Swoosh Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Does anyone have firsthand knowledge about the tattoo policies at Papillon, Sundance, 5 Star or any of the other turbine tour operators out in the Canyon? Specifically, would half-sleeve tattoos that are completely hidden by elbow-length sleeves disqualify an otherwise qualified pilot? Thanks! Quote
adam32 Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 If it's hidden then how would they know you have it? Apply and if you get an interview then ask them first hand. 1 Quote
Guest pokey Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 i don't have any 1st hand knowledge of helicopter pilots with tattoos. I found that most girls i have known with tattoos,? are a bit on the 'crazy' side and willing to do just about anything. If that holds true? i would keep it well hidden too. i suppose it all has to do with your tattoo too,, i mean? a heart shaped tattoo that says: "mom" ? i think some may hire you just for that. if you really want to know; i would suggest you find a friend to email the company anonymously (one who is not a pilot---but sounds interested in their company) & ask the specific question right to the horse. Azhigher Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 If you get interviewed go in with a long sleeve shirt. Problem solved. 1 Quote
r22butters Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 If you get interviewed go in with a long sleeve shirt. Problem solved. I was going to suggest not wearing a short-sleeved suit to the interview, but that's just as good. An employer once stereotyped me as a hot-dogger with bad habbits merely because I wasn't a cfi,...can't imagine what he would have assumed if I had sleeve tattoos? I guess that explains all the young pilots I've seen wearing sports wraps over their arms and legs underneath short-sleeved shirts and shorts? Didn't think flying was that strenuous on the joints!? 1 Quote
AS350 pilot Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I worked for one of the above mentioned grand canyon operators. It was a few years ago and they have since been bought out by another company. That being said, it actually was a question on my interview - weather or not I had tattoos. I don't have any so it wasn't an issue after that for me. All of the pilots who had tattoos were required to have them completely covered during work. Also, to say there are a few more applicants than openings in the canyon is an understatement. I wouldn't go to an interview without a suit on. When it comes up, you have a shown you're professional enough to have worn a suit to the interview and you can offer to always have your tattoos covered at work. Definitely not a deal breaker though. Good luck out there! 2 Quote

He was in my class the last time I was at Robinson. Fifty-eight huh? If it took me another ten years to find my secod job in this business I'd still be a few years younger than that,...so I guess there's plenty of time left to change my mind?,...HAAAAAA! ,..thought he looked better with a beard.
