Guest Jesslee
With the new ADSO requirement for aviators how does it work with the blended retirement? If you get out at 12 years there is the option of the 3 highest years and the percentage. Is that paid starting immediately upon getting out, at when the 20 year mark would be, or at current SSI/national retirement age? Sorry, I don’t know much about this, and I apologize if I have the information wrong. Thanks.
Thedude
You do not get a pension unless you do 20 years or are medically retired. The BRS is just a reduced pension payable after completing at least 20 years coupled with a 401k style plan called the Thrift Savings Program (TSP). The TSP is a voluntary contribution that the Army will match up to 5% of base pay. If you contribute nothing you get pretty much nothing. What you do contribute is not withdrawable under normal circumstances until age 59ish.
