A couple questions for you guys.

Does anyone know who operates chopper 36 in Austin, TX? Also does anyone know of a good site to find police forces that use civilian pilots? I am curious about how you would go about getting one of those positions as well.

I remember seeing a job ad that came directly from News 36, so I think the TV station operates it. I don't think the Austin Police have their own helicopter, but STARFlight may do police missions from time to time. Don't take my word for it though, as I am just guessing based on what I have seen from living in Austin.

Thanks pig...he he he always wanted to say that. Would you happen to know units that hire without having to pound the ground first?

There are a few...Hawthorne PD, Contra Costa County Sheriff, off the top of my head. I dont think there are many here in Ca. I know back east they have a lot of civilians. Fresno Police had openings for civilian pilots, but closed the announcement. I think they decided to stick with Police Officer Pilots.

Most in ca require you to be a cop for a few years prior, then start off as an observer and after a few years move to pilot when an opening comes. They are out there for sure though. Try the Airborne Law Enforcement Association they may help, or just call specific units and ask them.

Hawthorne's unit was shut down. They are no longer operating.
