On Silver State's website under "Motion Picture Production Services":

http://www.silverstatehelicopters.com/swordfish.heli

According to one JH board poster Silver State Helicopters had nothing to do with that movie.

"...Paul Mavrinac, while he was the chief pilot at Erickson, flew that shot for the movie. Time moves on, Paul leaves Erickson and begins work for Silver State. Silver State sees an advertising opportunity from a cool movie shot done years before and uses it on their website. Erickson and the production company may be interested in this liberal use of intellectual property, but probably will not pursue anything. The average dolt on the street sees it as a "way cool" thing to do at Silver State and signs away the next 20 years of his life, servicing a high-priced loan."

And how about this website page:

"Our staff and equipment have been used by..." Apparently that means "staff" before they were SSH employees because the list of movies includes Swordfish.

Prospective students be warned, SSH's marketing plays fast and loose with the facts.

Never even seen their website =)

Same here, never plan to either...........I was unfortunate enough to see one of their TV commercials on Discovery HD.

I can’t believe I’m going to post on this thread. Procrastinating Sunday chores I guess…

But here’s the quote from the website Fry referenced:

“…said Paul Mavrinac, Executive Vice President of Flight Operations for Silver State Helicopters, who flew the Erickson S-64 Aircrane helicopter for this sequence…”

Where are the non-truths? Paul Mavrinac is the Executive Vice President of Flight Operations for Silver State Helicopters (I assume. I couldn’t find the name of their executive vice president of flight operations on their website) and he was the pilot of the Erickson S-64 Aircrane (I also assume). They even said it was an Erickson bird.

Fry, with all do respect, I think you’re grasping at straws now.

Isn’t that just cleaver marketing from their marketing department? Sure it may be walking a fine line but is it any different than say cleaver wording on a resume, the media steering a news story in a self-serving direction, or politicians dodging questions? “Spin” I believe they call it--happens every day.

I’ve also heard their radio spots and seen their t.v. commercials. No doubt they are well done and very catchy (I stopped what I was doing to listen and watch). Again, cleaver marketing by their marketing department. They definitely have a specific market they are targeting.

Don’t get me wrong, their business practices may be shady (at best) but on the other hand, from a business point of view, you have to respect how he has grown SilverState. Really, SSH is no different than the majority of other large corporations today--it's just a shame there are no ethics in business anymore. Anyone else out there remember two words called “Customer Service”?

As with EVERYTHING, it’s BUYER BEWARE!!!

I wish I could have those five minutes back,
