JPDPilot Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Check out this article I found today: www.emsresponder.com/web/online/EMS-Staffing--Careers-and Advancement/Helicopter-Pilots-in-Short-Supply-for-EMS-and-Other-Needs/6$6118 It says some things that that are completely different from what I’ve read on this and other forums and anywhere else online. Examples: 1. “Hass hopes to land a job as an Emergency Medical Technician pilot. Salaries range from around $70,000 to $120,000, Carter said.” 2. “To get a commercial license, it takes about 300 hours, he said.” Did the writer just screw up the numbers or is there just a bunch of people over at civic that have no idea what they’re talking about or what?! Sparker Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 As for the salary: Carlsbad, CA... Everything is Higher out there. Salaries, cost of living, etc... 300 hours? I don't know... maybe if your a really slow learner, do some mountain courses, external load, or do instrument training out of order. Overall, I think the article makes me feel better about things. PhotoFlyer Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I think the person writing the article misunderstood, or took poor notes. He/she probably thought they said 300 hours for a commercial pilot. However, what they probably said was 300 hours for your first pilot job (robinson instructor @ company /w pathfinder) Quote
JPDPilot Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 As for the salary: Carlsbad, CA... Everything is Higher out there. Salaries, cost of living, etc... That's a good point. He was probably talking about the salary for that area. JPDPilot Quote
Mike Murphy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I live and fly in San Diego county...you're going to start in the low 60's...I think Bill Gate's pilot makes about 160K. I doubt you will find any EMS pilots pulling down 120K...70 maybe after a number of years. Quote
