italianshady Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I recently attended a silver state helicopter seminar and thought what a great career. The training to be a pilot is 12 - 18 months, costs 70k, and they say they hire 100% of their graduates where I am (phoenix, AZ). They start you at 52k per year. This sounds excellent to me. However, is it too good to be true? Is there something that I need to know. I recently withdrew from law school cuz I knew it wasnt for me and I want to be a pilot. Is there a better route to go? montu Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I wouldn't suggest going to SSH. Look around online for other schools in your area. I too went to one of their seminars in central FL. They make you sign a contract which is why I didn't go and I have heard way too many horror stories. Also use the search feature and you should get some other SSH related info on here. Jordan Quote
Galadrium Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 SSH is 100% BS... and that is the only "statistic" about them that is true. Becoming a professional pilot, like anything worthwhile, isn't easy, and can only be accomplished by hard work and sacrifice. Quote
Pogue Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 What part of the Valley are you in? There's lot's of schools to chose from here, make sure you do your research! Quote

OMG!If you believe they hire 100% of their graduates, and pay them 50K per year; I have some ocean from property in Colorado I can sell you……..cheap! Quote

Did you borrow the cost of your entire three years of law school upfront and pay it over to the school on the first day of classes; and then, when you withdrew, not get any of that money refunded? If your law school was run like SSH that's what would have happened. Quote
1957-Lomcevak Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Use the studies/courses that you have enrolled in or completed to analyze what was presented to you and/or the group, i.e. video, speakers, equipment, etc Remember that SSH is selling a product, you need to understand what it is that they are really selling!! (is it helicopter flight school, possible employment with SSH, or another company, financing for flight school, etc.) Recall what was presented to you? i.e. consider what SSH is endeavoring to accomplish, they are selling WHAT? Remember your perception isn’t always see what you think or perceived (seeing or hearing)! Innuendos are a powerful way of selling a product! Look at what isn’t said or stated! Research, Research, and Research again, Ask questions from other flight schools and not just in your area either! Contact helicopter employers and ask what their requirements are to be employed with them, there is a vast array of potential!! Quote
Sparker Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 DONT DO IT!!!!! Unless you like losing money.... or are extremely competitive and can outperform the other million students and be noticed. Even so, I'd go to a nice school with fewer students where you may actually have a conversation with the owner. ----------------Now playing: MXPX - Forgive and Forget Quote
zemogman Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Do some "SSH" and "Silver State" search on this forum and other search engines (google, etc.)...and make an informed decision. I also attend SSH seminar in FL...it was full of promise and excitement...it re-kindled the desire to fly helicopters that I've had since I was very young... I'll have my PPL (Private Pilot License) very soon... Oh Yeah...NOT WITH SSH !!! ---- If it looks like ****, feels like **** and smells like ****; it usually is **** (sorry...all due respect to those currently enrolled...) Quote
