I am thinking of getting this CD rom to help me . Anybody on here use one of these and are they any good http://www.kingschools.com/productDetail.a...20CPECCD%20HELO

My Dad sent them to me after he was done with them and I'm working my way though them now. Have the PPL and Helo add on. Lots of good information, presented very well and it's great to have all the animations and pictures so you can actually visualize what they are talking about. The guy and his wife that do the series seem to know what they are talking about and it's easy to watch. Only thing I don't like so far is the guy has a crazy look that kinda freaks me out! :o

Overall the price is pretty high, but I would recommend. Might want to check out some other ones like Sporty's first before you spend a bunch of cash on this though.

I second the recomendation for the King videos. They are great. Unlike the weekend ground courses which just prep you for the written. The King videos will be a resorce for years to come. I go back and look at mine every two years for my BAFR, never failed one yet.

Ditto... The King videos are very good. You can't go wrong with any of them. Check out the "Cross Country Flying" dvd also. Although it's not helicopter specific, it is an award winning video and very good.

John King is entertaining in his instruction.

The Sporty's "So you want to Fly helicopters" dvd is also very good.

I just picked up this video last night and am going to watch it tonight. Watched a few minutes of it and it looked good. Also you can download it and watch it right away. Cheaper then the full priced DVD plus I didn't have to wait a few weeks for it to catch up to me in Baghdad! :)

Ha - that's true. But I wish I had his money!

Check Ebay for any training manuals and DVD's if you want to save some bucks. They're always on there.

What content is on the Sporty's "So you want to fly helicopters?" DVD? I looked at it, but there's no detailed description. Is it an educational video? Is it really worth the $$? I am about 7/8th thru my ground training.

If you are that far into your training I wouldn't recommend it. It goes over a lot of the basics

"This is how autorotation works"

"This is how you do a proper pre-flight"

"This is what the collective, cyclic, throttle and pedals do"

etc.

Decent video, a bit old (1989, 1995, 2002) and it looks like something you might watch in high school but some good info. Geared towards those just learning about helos though.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know.

I'm looking for DVD's that I can use for review, and can enjoy as I progress thru commercial and CFI.

I don't mind spending the money to get a quality product.

Whirlydude, I third the recommendation of the King Schools training series. I ordered the PPL Helicopter CD (don't get the DVD as they have problems with drivers etc and over half the time doesn't work right, I had to return my DVD set).

The program basically runs you through the PPL for airplanes and has a little supplement for helicopters. You watch the helo stuff first, and while there, they tell you what to ignore in the airplane sections. There are 15 cds to go through so they take a lot of time the first time through. The second time through you fast forward a lot. I just went through them twice and used the included notes and answers book for review and it was enough to take the FAA written test yesterday with me getting a 90%. If I had had a bit more time to do another review, 100% would be pretty easy after using the King course. Martha plods on a bit, but John actually can be entertaining, if not too fast sometimes. Buy a plotter, a flight computer and have a few pencils and you are all set.

Good Luck,

Tom
