ADRidge Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I'm about to go in to see a plastic surgeon about lasering off some youthful indiscretions on Tuesday (this has nothing to do with that robbie tattoo idea I toyed around with, I promise ) and was wondering what the FAA's stance on this is. It's marked down on my last medical, so I looked at 67.213 which says nothing about tattoos being changed or removed, and neither do the examination techniques on the FAA's website. Has anyone had any ink lasered off after it's been recorded that you have ink? Did the FAA ask you anything? I'm going in for my 2nd class medical, if that makes any difference. Quote

I know helo drivers with laser-removed tattoes of just that variety. No worries, it's just an ID factor as far as I know. If you can laser your eyes, you can laser some ink. (not implying that the FAA always follows logic that directly!!) Just call your AME and ask, they're there to keep you IN the sky, not on the ground! Quote

Gomer Pylot Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Just remember, you are required to report all visits to all health-care professionals. If you don't, and get caught, the FAA is likely to revoke your medical, perhaps your license. I don't think tattoo removal would be disqualifying, any more than seeing any other doctor, but you had better report it on your next physical. Quote

It's not like I see alot of doctors. I think this will be the only doc visit in the past three years. Quote
ADRidge Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Sacrilage. Generally I'd say yes, but if you saw this tattoo, you'd want it gone too. Besides, it's being replaced with a better one! I actually got laughed out of a really popular artist's shop when I asked if he'd cover it up. Quote
Autorotator Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I've got one of those "mistakes" too. When you're 18, why do cartoon characters seem like a good idea to have tattooed on your body? Quote
mrjibbs Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 are you looked down upon in this industry if you have tattoos below the sleeve? I am a young pilot about to enter the commerical world and am just curious. I dont have any huge or offensive tattoos, but parts of some show below my sleeve.... Quote
