Hovergirl Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Got my private license yesterday, despite our lovely Oregon spring weather. Winds started out more than I would like (10 kts) but steady, by the time we got back from off airports etc. for maneuvers they were variable, throw in some moderate rain, and then when I was finishing up my auto a little hail . I made a special note to my examiner that I would not normally fly in that weather, especially without a second set of eyes/hands, and we stopped on the ground at idle until the (OK, pretty small) hail passed over us, but everything was good enough. Not my best day flying, but good enough will do for me right now. I set it down on the ramp, rolled down the RPM and immediately got a headache. I guess I was carrying a bit of tension around! I'll be sleeping for a day or two, and on to bigger and better things just in time for the REAL spring. HVG Quote

Once again, congrats and great job! Kelly Quote
C.R.O. Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Congratulations! The weather was pretty crazy during that flight block. Conor Quote

ironranger Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Cogratulations, Its a great feeling when you accomplish something like that. I bet its a big weight off your shoulders. Fly Safe Quote
montu Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Great Job. I should be there soon too! Which type of heli are you flying? Quote
Node Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Great job! I remember the feeling I had when I got my private. Not only did you just endure an hour and a half (two, three....couldn't have been more than six???) hours of getting drilled before your flight, but then the actual flight just does you in. After the euphoria of realizing I had actually passed all I wanted was a nap. I just finished up my instrument earlier this week. Gota love Oregon, was a nice day up until I did my ride, then wind clouds and a little snow. Good times! Again great job!!! Quote

Cold, rain, hail, mist, sun, wind, snow, and ice on the road so that I couldn't ride my bike to work. I betcha everyone in your family is ecstatic about your accomplishment. I am. Take care and fly well. Later Quote
FlyNHighNFast Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Congrats! That was a great accomplishment. Quote
Hovergirl Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 Thanks everybody. Witch -- the family are thrilled, especially dh, who's been skipping work/life so I could cram in 'just one more flight' before the exam. I'm playing a bit of catch up with the kids, husband and house (and taxes, and bills, etc. etc.). Montu, I'm in the ever-popular R22, with a 220 lb examiner no less. That, a good crosswind, and my general stiffness and nervousness made for a pretty sloppy first pickup but the rest worked out OK. Thanks again for the congrats, it's great to finally put up that post, and even better to know it's being read by my online buds. HVG Quote
Copterpilot213 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Congratulations HVG!!!! I too remember what it was like to be in your shoes and I definitely know what you mean by needing to sleep for a couple days! lol You're going to have a lot of fun with commercial and instrument (are you doing instrument now?), well maybe not so much fun with instrument... but you never know! Billwants2fly Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Congrats !!! I can't wait until I can say the same and I can imagine there is plenty of tension...I know I would be nervous. What school are you attending in Oregon ? Quote
