But, I bet you understand what the instructor is talking about without having to look it up. Good luck, have a nice time Quote
Goldy Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Taking an introflight on wed just wanted to ask if their were any sugestions You're screwed. Sell the house. Sell all your possessions. Keep one computer so you can schedule your training flights and keep one couch to sleep on. Did I mention how screwed you are ? Hand your checkbook over to the flight school...your credit cards too. Oh yeah, have fun. Goldy Quote

I fly R/C helicopters just wanted to know if any of the R/C experence would carry over too. Thanks for any advice or sugestions I took my intro flight last Friday 5/9. We stayed up in the air 1.4 hrs. I had a great time but I was nervous, too. If you've ever flown in a helicopter that's one thing, but actually taking over the controls, as you should during the intro, that's whole other experience (good one). I took my second lesson today (stayed up for 1.3 hrs). I'm so glad I've started training and know it's not a dream anymore. Good Luck! Have fun and RELAX! Quote
Tawler Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I was thinking of making a thread like this of my own , but I've been browsing the forums a bit so I refrained. Haha, but I'm also taking an introductory flight on Wednesday 5/21 @ Bristow Academy in Concord, CA. I'm excited, but I've been reading so much about training and such that I'm not really sure what to think! But hey, that's what intro-flights are for, right? Quote
dragster Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 Thanks everyone for the advice its go time at 10:30 tommorrow will post my thoughts about it wed night. hope to have much fun Quote
ADRidge Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Best advice I can give is this: expect to drown in info. You may feel, for a couple of weeks at least, that you're in over your head. This will pass, and you'll either have the knack for it and become an addict, or you won't. Have fun! Quote

That is where I did my Commercial and CFI training at! Good school. Can't go wrong in my opinion. The company I work for has something like 4 pilots that trained and taught there. Quote

There's another school @ San Carlos Airport ( Golden Gate Helicopters)...but that's around an hour commute for me . I'm so excited for my intro-flight! I can't wait . Quote
dragster Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Ok I have tried 3 times to post this and maybe this time it will go thought went weds day and done the intro flight at civic helicopters in Carlsbad Ca, had the best time was wounderful got lots of stick time had a wounderful and helpful instructor named chris, we spent 1.0 hour up and done: straight & Level,Turns,Climbs,Hover work. Would do it again in a heart beat. Thanks everyone Quote
DOORGUNNER Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 dragster, I'm just curious, did you feel that any of your RC heli flying experience carried over at all to the intro flight? If so, how? If you don't mind sharing. DG Quote

If you don't mind sharing. DG DOORGUNNER sorry been out, To anserwer your question I think it did a little far as knowing that you need to use small gentle movements and knowing how things work, Iam all so a Crane operator and the same goes their to, make small gentle movements, a little is alot just remember that and it will help Quote
DOORGUNNER Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I imagine if the RC heli's you fly are are the big 1000 dollar kit ones, where you are putting every little piece of the main rotor and tail rotor together, you will understand everything much better. Knowing that you only need small inputs on the controls makes sense too. I have a gas powered RC plane that I used to fly quite a bit a few years back. I didn't feel that any of that carried over to heli flying though. I've only flown RC helicopters on the Real flight RC simulator. I found that the helicopters on the RC simulator are much more realistic than the helicopters on Microsoft Flight simulator. Good Luck. DG Quote

DGdoorgunner when you mentioned Microsoft Flight was that the X ? and as far as the rc sims have you ever tried the reflex flight sim its really nice best graphics by far, As far as my R/C heli in the past I had a Raptor 30 V1 & V2, than I got the Bergain Gasser, I was talking with the instructor that day and he said that most of the time the larger helis were like the R/Cs in that with more weight the better the heli handles? ADRidge Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I can't speak for the larger birds, but the -22 gets alot less squirrelly when you have someone inside the a/c with you. Quote
