Helipilot_89 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Well, Its official Step one is complete, I am a private pilot! Now on to all that cross country time so i can move onto instrument! It was a beautiful day sunny and clear, very hot though, so that high DA was making it kinda hard not to overpull power during my confined area landing. Anyway, i won't babble, All i can say is I am ecstatic! Quote
JDHelicopterPilot Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Congrats! Keep up the great work. Keep us up to date on your training and any stories you may have to share. Quote
C.R.O. Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Congratulations! It's a great feeling, isn't it? You will love working on your commercial, I know I did. Conor Quote
Helipilot_89 Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 Thanks for the support, yeah it was amazing. So now I am working on my X-country time, but they want us to take an instructor with all the time, so i get to pay in instructor 20 and hour to hang out and make conversation Quote
will Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 is this typical (those of you who've done the commercial training)? hey, '89, can you PM me the name of the school you're attending? it sounds like you're having a good time. Quote
ChprPlt Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Your CFI should not just be along for the ride, they should be instructing! I see lots of people going for commercial that just fly to get PIC hours. You should be flying with your CFI working on manuevers to get better. Quote
Helipilot_89 Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 Well my CFI does instruct but there is not alot to be instructed on in X- countries is there? I mean we do some autos and stuff but thats about it. Quote
ChprPlt Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 have your CFI give you diversions, quiz you on emergency procedures, give simulated engine failures, practice low RPM recovery etc when your doing X-countries. Enjoy your flights but keep learning. Quote

C.R.O. Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I agree with the above responses. There is a lot you can do on cross country flights. Off-airports, autos, diversions, emergency procedures, and when you get to your destination, rather than just grabbing a bite to eat and turn around, do some other maneuvers that are going to be required of you for your practical test. 180 autos, hover autos, running landings, etc. Conor Quote
