Rogue Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 overshoot? no problem.... just roll her backerds Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 They should have gone around. Hardest thing for a pilot to do is go around. Luckily it was a non-event. Quote
MN Heli Flyer Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 It looks like a hazy overcast day. Depth perception may have had something to do with the need for quick stop approach. It would have been safer to go around and do a normal approach. This one worked this time. I hope he doesn't make a habit of this kind of approach, it may not work out next time. Quote
FutureHeliDriver Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I wonder if he just had to goto the bathroom really really REALLY bad!!!! LOL Quote
jaredsega Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Amazing we have pilots flying like that, thats how 76s go down.like last year in Santa maria S-76A same thing but hit stuff.Im all for Rallying but not at work like that! Quote
Yamer Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 strong tailwind maybe? you think that would cause something like this to happen? if that's the case shouldnt he have done a normal approach and landed into the wind like normal? Quote
West Coaster Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 It's an easy enough mistake to make in the S76. Quote
Rogue Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 I thought it was a pretty impressive display of skill to roll her backerds on the rear wheels myself, I did assume it wasn't safe. I imagine missing your approach is something that happens on occasion Quote
West Coaster Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Rolling back on the rear wheels is frowned on, lots of ways it can go wrong. Rolling back even a few inches with the front wheel on the ground is a major no-no though. It casters freely and can easily rotate 180 degrees so it's facing the wrong way. Pull up the gear on the next takeoff and this happens.... Dude Where's My Gear? Quote
Rogue Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Dude, where's my gear hahahahha that's good stuff. Yea I didn't figure that would be in the ops manual Quote

Wally Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 "Truly superior pilots are those who use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills." Shallow and fast to an elevated pad, offshore or on the beach, is stupid. Not a lot to recommend that profile at anytime, unless somebody's shooting at you. Quote
