Make way for Whitey

Recommended Posts

I was at Plymouth airport in MA today and saw Whitey Bulger being flown in by the coast guard after his court appearance in Boston. There were over 10 state trooper and Sheriff vans and cars and more motorcycle cops giving him a private armed escort back to prison.

Nice to see our tax money being put to good use!!

I'm still confused as to why the expensive H-60s (or possibly Dauphins, if they're coming from somewhere other than CGAS Cape Cod) are being used for this, vs the state police aircraft...

I would have to agree with you. Federal case(FBI) then they are going to use federal budgeted resources. With the story and bad press, it figures the Feds would go way over board not to goof it up again. lol

Normally, the US Marshall Service is responsible for transferring Federal prisoners and detainees. Which for that use, the Marshall Service has a small airline. No helicopters however. Due to Bulger's background and affiliations, it looks like everyone decided to crank security up a couple of notches. For a short range transfer, they would normally use a car or a van. As for being a waste of our tax dollars, I would much prefer that the forces of law and order went a little overboard on the security with this guy. What you probably didn't see were the SWAT team or two providing perimeter security and the other officers assigned along the planned route.

Just to clarify, I wasn't being sarcastic with the tax dollar remark. Reading back over it (and the use of the exclamation marks), I realise I made it sound so. Totally agree with the hyped up security for this guy.

It was pretty impressive actually.
