RkyMtnHI
Hey all, We were very lucky to fly the Hind yesterday at the Cold War Museum in Lancaster Texas. It was a whirlwind day, flying down early and jumping back on the plane for Denver. But, on the way back to DFW we saw Astars flying all over the place and realized we were only blocks away from the Eurocopter Factory so we just had to stop in. Both places were totally amazing to us, the hospitality and generosity was unbelievable. I wanted to share it with you all and i hope if you are anywhere close to Lancaster (South of Dallas), you’ll stop in and see these awesome folks and their machines.. You will be hearing much more about the Museum soon.. I have posted links to our facebook album and my photobucket for those of you that don’t fb. I’ll have videos up soon. aloha, dp EUROCOPTER: http://s298.photobuc...pter%20Factory/ https://www.facebook...29809710&type=1 HIND: https://www.facebook...29809710&type=1 http://s298.photobuc...RkyMtnHI2/HIND/
Shaun
The people at CWAM are some of the most generous, down to earth, and knowlegeable I have ever met in aviation. Please see and support their awesome collection of aircraft.
Helipilot PTK
So if I'm understanding correctly you got to actually fly the Hind? That had to be an amazing experience, how did it fly? Also awesome pictures of the Hind and Eurocopter factory. Sounds like a unforgettable trip.
Shaun
Yes. Amazing experience does not really do it justice, it was the greatest day of my life. It flew like a hydrulics off 206, with limited visibility, enormous innertia, and what seemed like unlimited power. In other words it was perfect. The startup procedures were about twice as long as those for the CRJ and there is zero automation, only engineering. In the gunners seat you have some gagues but they are 90 degrees to your left. Despite all its exposed wires and equipment litterly strapped on to the body I felt safer in that helicopter than any other aircraft. This all happened because of Dennis and Chris Gagne. I will be their slave forever and I'm ok with that.

RkyMtnHI
Thought you might like to see Shaun flying the Hind.. pretty cool video, especially when the gear goes up up. The awesome thing we kept hearing him say was: 'i'm trying to get it under 150 so i can put the gear down' !! (we were riding along on his flight in the back) Yes, it was fast !! He did five patterns and we were smoking to say the least.. The pickup at the first of the video was his, he had been in the front seat for about five minutes.. looks pretty smooth to me for sure !! :-) Good job buddy!! dp

SBuzzkill
Too cool. How did you get that over the shoulder shot? Is there access from the cabin to the cockpit?
