Helicopter towing net / screen sampling near shore?

Spotted this aircraft and equipment flying along the shore of Nantucket Island this past weekend, curious if anyone knows what the craft and equipment might have been doing? Appeared to be towing a net / screen, possibly sampling?

Yeah, or mermaids. According to the discovery channel, they are pretty crafty.

Looks to me like an empty net. maybe repositioning after a long line job they just finished. that is my guess.

 

I have seen a bell helicopter fly a load of equipment to a location then fly the cargo net empty back with just a pallet in it.
