Flying Pig Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Would one of these be sufficient for the purposes of training for an RW instrument rating? Anybody have any experience with one? Quote
wopilot Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Is a 150xl the only GPS you have access to? I would highly recommend anything newer...430/530. GTN etc.. Quote
Flying Pig Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 . thanks but thats not the issue. Im notlooking for advice on quality. just need to know if the 150xl would work for training purposes Quote
Dnr032 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 We had those in our aircraft years ago...... fortunately we upgraded to the G530s! It will be OK for situational awareness only while training for the RW instrument rating. However, you will not be able to use them for any type of GPS approaches. The Garmin 150XL is certified for VFR purposes only and therfore does not have the database capability of doing a GPS approach. http://www8.garmin.c...ducts/gps150xl/ But, a picture is worth a thousand cross-checks and the little moving map will give you that!
