Im over 40, got a class two medical 14 months ago thinking i might get a flying job. I didnt get the job so im still just a private pilot with a commercial rating. The way i read it, as long i just fly for fun, my class two is valid for two years but if i were to get a commercial job, it would need to be renewed annually. What if i were to get a job now? Is my class two automatically expired?

I know what the simple answer is. Im more or less asking to see what the right answer is and to add some activity to the board.

I believe that your Class 2 reverts to a Class3 after a year. If you want to maintain it as a Class 2, you have to be examined every 12 months.

The class of a medical certificate does not revert. The privileges for which it is good, however, do.

A class II medical is still a class II medical after 14 months, though it's only good for class III privileges.

The original poster stated that he's a private pilot with a "commercial rating." There is no such thing.

There is one pilot certificate. If the original poster holds commercial pilot certification, then he's a commercial pilot. He may exercise lesser privileges and use a lesser medical certificate accordingly, but remains a commercial pilot.

A class II does not revert to a Class III after 12 months, but after 12 months It is only good for class III privileges. A re-examination is not used to restore the class II; a new class II medical must be obtained in order to exercise class II privileges again. This is not a restoration of the old certificate with the examination, but the issuance of a new one.

As an over 40 "private pilot with a commercial rating" myself I'd say you need to go back to your instructor and demand your money back for at least one ground lesson!
