TscottN Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 Thanks guys.. Overall, I was tense the entire time, however again... The DPE really did his best to make me relax and feel good about what was happening.. I think it is really because of the way he dealt with the situation that made me do so well on the check ride. Few people can do that... Now then.. the first part of the ride went pretty smooth, I had to do one go around on the pinnacle approach because i didn’t give myself enough time to set it up, however the second time, I did well on that.. We did the first part of a CC which he had me bring with me. Then we headed back to the airport to do some pattern work, Approaches were fine, My Straight in Auto was fine, he even commented on how well executed it was. He made me flare a little higher than I was used to, however I understand that since he never flew with me before, and wanted to keep us safe. My first two hovering autos were horrible, ( I have done these like 50 million times with my instructor) I guess I was just nervous. The last one was very good, so we moved on. My quick stop was passable, however he showed me a better way to do them. (Basicsally level out before my flare) as I had always started the flare from a nose low ff position. Then we taxied back to the ramp and finished the paperwork. Overall it was a great experience, I was much more nervous then I should have been, but I really think I flew well.. Great? No.. well, yes. I still have a lot to learn and I realize that like anything, practice, humility, and a desire to learn from others with much more experience than you will get you ahead in anything you do... I also owe my instructor for getting me ready for this... He constantly drilled the basics into me... “70knots, 2700ft... don’t go to 50knots in your turn . . . Don’t go passed 2700 ft... Keep your needles in the green, watch your throttle, and don’t forget to clear right/left before you start your turn. Etc... Etc… Etc” Rinse and repeat 200 times per lesson... But in the end, it made me very aware of my actions or lack their of... So in the end, it was all good, and I passed my first major hurdle. Now on to bigger and better… Quote
Superman Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Good job. I still have a lot to learn and I realize that like anything, practice, humility, and a desire to learn from others with much more experience than you will get you ahead in anything you do... Very well said, Keep this attitude throughout your training/career and you'll do well. Fly SafeClark Quote

TscottN Posted September 9, 2007 Author Posted September 9, 2007 Congratulations!!! It's a great feeling getting this first part done, isn't it? Good luck on your commercial, are you going to do instrument too? Thanks to everyone for the congratz. I am not sure about my instrument ticket yet. I will do my commercial and my CFI but I also want to get my Fixed wing add on as well. However I know that if I want to do Medivac some day which is my ultimate goal then I will need my Instrument cert. Quote
Copterpilot213 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 You're welcome. Correct me if I'm wrong everyone, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find most jobs without an instrument ticket nowadays... Quote
