FlyNHighNFast Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I completed my first helicopter solo today. 3 times around the patch and my first .3 of PIC is official. I want to thank all of you that have provided advice and information that has gotten me to this point. This site is invaluable when it comes to the dissemination of information, even if you have to sort the wheat from the chaff to get some of it. I should be done with the PPL in a few weeks, depending on my job schedule. Unfortunately I log most of my weekly flight time in the cabin of an airliner, so I am not home to train as often as I would like. M. Quote

FlyNHighNFast Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 congratulations, what school are u in, and what kind of helo are u training with. I am an aspiring helo pilo, not in school yet I'm at NC Rotor and Wing. I'm primarily training in the R-22, but I've logged some R-44 time when the opportunity was there to do so at the R-22 rate. When do you expect to start school? I'm having a blast. Quote

Are you training in Raliegh or Rowan County? I myself am about to start training at NC Rotor and Wing at Rowan County. Good to meet you. Send me a PM sometime. Quote
waterway4 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Congrats on your solo. Yesterday I turned 58. After my lesson today I hit 13 hours (R22). I can almost hover, fly a pattern, and handle ATC. I should have it licked in another five or six hours. Since I still need to work for a living, I can only fly once or twice week – it’s coming slowly. Hopefully I'll solo in another 10 or so. I, too, am having a blast. Quote
500E Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Hope you all have the smile on order I still smile every time I fly Quote
FlyNHighNFast Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 Thanks for the congrats. I think the solo is more of a confidence booster than anything else. I'm just going to fly the 10 hours as required by the FARs. The rest of the time, I'm going to work with my CFI to hone my skills until I am ready for the PPL check ride. I think 15-20 more hours including the solo time should do it. M. Quote
