HeliHelvig Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 running landings for ppl checkride? i guess i was spoiled on my flight portion. all i had to do was depart class B airpsace, find our little airport in class E, normal takeoff, quickstop, hover auto, slope landing, steep approach, 180 auto, and straight in auto. at the end he had me tune in to the class B VOR which i had NEVER done. luckily the person before me had already put in the radio freq. and all i had to do was turn the knob until the thing lined up. ha Well the running landings are optional, along with confined area ops and pinnacle ops. Those are what I'm getting some practice with this week. What do you think the chances of having to do everything is? I know that whatever optional maneuvers my examiner has me do now, I won't have to do them for my commercial checkride right? So he should save some stuff to do then? Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Good luck everyone with checkrides this week! You'll do fine! Like most have said, you have already passed it. Your CFI's have a lot riding on it, and won't sign you off until you have passed them. Now you just need to show the FAA. No big deal! Quote

What do you think the chances of having to do everything is? I know that whatever optional maneuvers my examiner has me do now, I won't have to do them for my commercial checkride right? So he should save some stuff to do then? The examiner told me that I had to either do a run-on landing or a confined, but he chose run-on. But anyway good luck and you'll do fine don't stress out about it, like others have said if your instructor signed you off then you'll do fine. My instructor told me before I took my checkride that the most common way people fail the checkride is by doing something they normally wouldn't do. Remember, proper decision making makes up a huge part of the checkride and that is what the examiner will be watching for, he knows you can fly the aircraft after all the instructor signed you off, but he wants to make sure that you can make good, sound decisions. Goldy Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 What do you think the chances of having to do everything is? Heli-I'm flying Friday, might see you on the tarmac ! I have not heard of the local DPE's doing any confined or pinnacle work, usually just a run on at CMA or TOA. Should be a piece of cake for ya !Be sure to fly into LGB once or twice just to get used to the airspace..Good luck, Goldy Quote

I've been out to LGB once on a night flight, and I've been to CMA a few times, but I've never been to TOA. I'm sure I'll be fine though. Quote

The examiner had me do simulated engine failure, running landing, autorotation, steep approach and take off, sloped landing, hovering autorotations, emergency procedures ( Low rotor RPM, Settling with power, and orally telling a few selected procedures) Normal approach, normal take off. I THINK that was all.. but I can't completely remember, because it was in november! Made me do a divert from my first checkpoint after I reached it. If are going to fly into TOA and LGB area, give me PM and I can give you a couple pointers around the area because that's where I did most/all of my flying at. GL! HeliHelvig Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 I passed! I finally had my checkride and it went perfectly. I don't know what I was so worried about. Even with those nice 20kt gusting Santa Anas today it wasn't a problem. Thank you for everyone's support and advice. I can't even describe how amazing of a feeling it is to have that under my belt now. But I'm sure everybody here knows that feeling. Quote

I'd love to get in the 47 sometime and fly that monster. Patrick got checked out in the R44 right before I did my checkride so I'm sure I'll do some flying in that with him eventually. Quote
