Effect of fuel prices on training costs

Recommended Posts

I have wondered this several times over the last few months, but I have yet to see it as a topic, so I thought I would pose the question myself.

Has anyone seen training costs being affected by rising fuel prices yet? How much do you think it will be a factor in the future? It concerns me that at this rate, while I'm saving money for my training, fuel prices will force schools to raise training costs to the point that I won't be able to save it fast enough. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this?

My main question is, extrapolating from any recent increases in training costs, does anyone have a guess as to what the total cost might be in a couple of years?

It has affected the cost of my training - our school instituted an extra fuel surcharge a long time ago. First it was $5 / hr, then $7, then $9 & now it shot up to $13 / hr.

Pretty soon, the benefit of having a block rate will be wiped out.

I'd wager that you'll see a 20/hr raise in the average VFR robbie rate before december.
