RagMan Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Looking at making a trip up to Hillsboro Aviation in Oregon next week. I'm in Northern California right now. It will be about a 2 or 3 day stay up there to get an idea of the area, Hillsboro aviation, check out Embry Riddle and Portland Community College, and more than likely take an intro flight in one of their Robis. If they are any VR members here that are currently attending, or have attended in the past for any sort of training, feel free to post your dislikes and likes about the school, and if there should be anything in particular I should ask or look for at Hillsboro Aviation. Thanks. Quote
Lindsey Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Choppertomtom goes there - try sending him a PM if he doesn't see this thread. Quote
kodoz Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Some good info on this recent thread: http://helicopterforum.verticalreference.c...mp;hl=hillsboro Quote
aclark79 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I think you'll find quite a number of current and former Hillsboro students and instructors here on Vert Ref... Quote
mrjibbs Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 one of my past students went there and transfered to the school i was teaching at, if your interested in why send me a message. Also, it is well publicized that they let their instructors go once they reach 1,000 hours, just food for thought. Quote
jaredsega Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 They Hired me to pick up a R-44 from Torrence and deliver it, and when i sent them the bill I never got paid. Over a year now and no response! Quote
Jason Paterson Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I'm headed up there from California next week too! I'm also hoping to check out Leading Edge Aviation while I'm up in Oregon. Quote
01CelicaGTS Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I am currently attending HAI. I like the people and atmosphere of the place. It's nice to fly in the inland northwest, as well as flying in Class C, D, E, and G airspace. They have a lot of helicopter's, so most of the time it's pretty easy to get as many flights as you want (except IFR, they only have 1 good one and an R44). The couple of issues I would list would be that they do let their instructors go at 1000hrs. That's bad as a CFI, but good if your a student, cuz there will be more job openings. One other thing that may be an issue is that they currently don't have any lender's for loans (unless you go throught PCC, but I'm not sure how much money you could get that way). Any questions PM me. Quote
RkyMtnHI Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Hey Bud, When i moved from Kaneohe i went to Hillsboro with intentions of flying there. I really liked the school, their aircraft and the area. I met with the director of ops for a couple of days and felt great about everything. I ended up in Denver due to my wife's choice of schools... I do know some pilots that trained there and they had good things to say about the school. dp Quote
turbotay Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I am currently a student at HAI and PCC and so far things have been really good, someone asked about loans through PCC. The company giving you the loan will give you the amount listed by PCC to complete your training its a pretty good chunk of money. The 1000 limit sounds about right however Ive heard of CFI's reapplying and getting hired for another 1000 chunk. Everyone there is very friendly and professional but like everything else if you have problems somewhere in your training you have to speak up, your CFI can tell what your strengths ad weaknesses are in flight but they cant read minds, if you feel you need extra training in a specific maneauver tell your CFI and theyl be more than happy to help you practice it. They have a high standerd of making sure you suceed any other questions feel free to message me. Quote
Chewie Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 It also wouldn't hurt to check out Sunset Helicopters at Aurora State, and Precision Helicopters in Newberg. Quote
RagMan Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 I will definitely be stopping by Precision again to talk with those guys. Aurora is just down that road from Precision, so that will work out great Despite what I have been hearing about Hillsboro, I will still make a trip by the facility regardless to get information for myself firsthand. All of the information and experiences that have been provided and shared is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys. Hopefully by the start of spring I will have a school picked out and be on the controls Quote
