r22butters Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Damn,...I've been wanting to check out an Astro for a while now (I flew one a few months ago, but it had already been converted to hydraulics). Its too bad you time-building ops are never out here in California! Quote
heli3544 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Cheap rates like that screw it up for the rest of the honest flight schools trying to make a living.... Giving things away dont better this industry. Quote
gary-mike Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Cheap rates like that screw it up for the rest of the honest flight schools trying to make a living.... Giving things away dont better this industry. Not so sure it would make that big of an impact when they have limited slots, and many people would have to travel great distances to do it. Pilots accepting penuts for a job is what hurts the most IMO. 1 Quote
r22butters Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 ...Pilots accepting penuts for a job is what hurts the most IMO. Its either peanuts to fly, or integrity and flip burgers! My money's on Overpopulation and CFI Factories as to what hurts this industry the most. As for these cheap time-building ops. If the one for "fly an Astar for R22 prices" comes back,...I'm in!,...not because of the turbine hours, or even the time-building, but because I've always wanted to fly one, and that's probably the only way I ever will! Keep 'em coming! 1 Quote
Boatpix Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 We have an R44 at $300/hour in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area. Check out www.r22.us as we also have R22s at $200/hour. As it is getting cold up North we are basically only flying Southern California and Florida. So, if you are on the west coast we have an R22 at Torrance, California and in Florida in the following cities: Pensacola, Ft Myers, Sarasota, Miami, Ft Lauderdale and we can always cover Jacksonville, Orlando and Titusville if someone wants to build some time. We also have free airline tickets to shoot funded people to cool places for the weekend. We want to keep you in your real job, in your bed and fly weekends with us doing photo at the sustainable rated of $200/hour. And we are an advertiser. Quote
Tarantula Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Cheap rates like that screw it up for the rest of the honest flight schools trying to make a living.... Giving things away dont better this industry. Usually cheap rates like this are only when the helicopter is going to time out on years instead of flight hours. So they cut the rates to make whatever they can with the flight hours remaining. I don't see it as hurting "honest" flight schools as its a limited opportunity and not guaranteed. 1 Quote

Giving things away dont better this industry. I am not a flight school. I simply have an R44 Astro and a very good CFI who lives nearby is able to fly whenever I need him. It's a nice situation for everyone. We have had folks visit from Ohio and New York and we still have some time remaining to offer.I am not a competitior and this surely isn't a business. I'm just trying to give a few pilots an inexpensive way to earn more hours and learn something at the same time.Thank you. Quote
