Helipilot PTK Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 What do you think? I think its a movie prop. You never know though. http://www.wired.com...rop-or-stealth/ The movie it may be for. The movie looks very interesting, will have to add it to my "movies to see list". 1 Quote
gary-mike Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) Looks like a prop to me, not too secure, and it looks like a F-117 with rotor wings. F-117 technology is going to the bone yard, look at the F-22, things have changed. Edit: Maybe not for the better though... Unless getting high on fumes in a supersonic jet is your thing. aeroscout Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 Whatever happened to the Commanche ? Quote
helistar Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 It's been in the news the producer was provided by the white house, access to the top secret operations room where this operation was overseen... I'd be surprised if it doesn't become big news again once the film is released... The report was the producer a big Obama supporter was provided access to some classified information, plus several members of the seal team in an effort to make the film as realistic as possible and since this still is a classified operation, why it's such a big issue... Helipilot PTK Posted August 9, 2012 Author Report Posted August 9, 2012 Whatever happened to the Commanche ? It was canceled back in 2004 due to escalating costs. It's been in the news the producer was provided by the white house, access to the top secret operations room where this operation was overseen... I'd be surprised if it doesn't become big news again once the film is released... The report was the producer a big Obama supporter was provided access to some classified information, plus several members of the seal team in an effort to make the film as realistic as possible and since this still is a classified operation, why it's such a big issue... So are you saying this is a real picture that was leaked by the white house? Or that this is a mock up of the real helicopter used, getting specs from access to the white house and talking with navy seals? EDIT.Found this article, dosn't answer my questions, however, it is a very interesting read. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2185451/Zero-Dark-Thirty-Trailer-controversial-movie-Osama-bin-Laden-raid-released.html Quote
helistar Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Here's the official story for what it's worth... “Also troubling is the fact that the Democratic lobbying firm Glover Park Group was so intimately involved in brokering these filmmakers’ access to clandestine officers and potentially special operators only weeks after the mission and when details were otherwise still very closely guarded, and one of Glover Park’s primary contacts within the Administration, CIA spokeswoman Marie Harf, left shortly thereafter to join President Obama’s reelection campaign in Chicago. The documents indicate that the Pentagon granted Bigelow and Boal access to a "planner, Operator and Commander of SEAL Team Six," the Navy commando unit that carried out the raid during which bin Laden was killed in Abbotabad, Pakistan, where he apparently had lived for years. The transcript quotes Michael Vickers, the Pentagon's intelligence chief, giving the filmmakers the identity of a senior SEAL team member involved in the raid on the condition that "you not reveal his name in any way as a consultant, because ... he shouldn't be talking out of school." Among the disclosures were that the filmmakers had access to top White House officials, were given the identity of a SEAL team member involved in the raid and taken to the top-secret "vault". RkyMtnHI Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 I can tell you that the four tube NVGoggles are for real, we saw them over a year ago at Heli-Ops, pretty amazing, they are larger diameter and give a wider view, but they limit depth perception and the operators like to have both in use at the same time. Here are some photos, the one looking thru the tubes is thru one side, they kinda over lap in the photos but not so much when you're wearing them. dp Quote
Flying Pig Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 I fly with NVGs pretty regular. The two ANVIS 9s are heavy enough....cant imagine have four tubes strapped to my head!! Quote
nightsta1ker Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 Lots of speculation at my day job about this. The guys who would know are not talking. That's just the way things go! I can say from personal experience that there are some pretty cool toys out there in the field for the spec ops guys to play with. Quote
