Five0 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 How's the hiring in the GOM this year? Retiring from my LE job in July and looking to head out there. Thanks, Five0 Quote
JDHelicopterPilot Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I have seen more job ads posted in the last year than years past. However, at this time I see only one ad posted recently. That is for ERA in the GOM. There are a lot more HEMS openings including some in TX. Doesn't mean you can't apply with PHI, RLC or Bristow anyway. Since you already have a fair amount of turbine time I would think you would have a better than average chance. Quote
Five0 Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 Anyone know if they're hiring much in the GOM right now? Been submitting resumes since June with no response. Tried calling to follow up but always goes to voice mail and never get a return call. Any advice? Also, are most operators still doing 7/7 or is it mostly 14/14? Thanks, Five0 Quote
rotormandan Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Back in June PHI was hiring 8 light ship pilots a month. I think they still are but not sure. Most gulf jobs are 14/14. At PHI they let you pick during your training if you want 7's or 14's. Quote
Mikemv Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I suggest attending Heli Success Nov. 2-4 in Las Vegas. Quote
Five0 Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 Yeah I was thinking about it. I've been the last two years. But you don't have to twist my arm very much for a Vegas trip. Quote
zippiesdrainage Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 There hasn't been a lot of hiring in the Gulf in a while. RLC hasn't hired because they lost a contract and I heard that PHI closed a base down there or something. However all it takes is one little agreement between the helicopter companies and the oil companies to suddenly have a huge demand for pilots. Quote
clay Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 From what I've been told, the gulf needs pilots. I know we are short pilots. I can rarely get vacation requests approved because of the lack of pilots who are available. Just talked to a buddy a few minutes ago and he. Was telling me that his company is short big time. He works for one of the other bigguns. I think the issue in the gulf right now is people not having the experience that some customers are requiring. Quote
pilot#476398 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 We need pilots, but you don't have the experience! The most common thing a low time pilot hears! Such is life. Quote
C of G Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Clay, Your vacation isn't approved because your whole life is a vacation. How much more do you want?!?! Now get back to work!!!! 1 Quote

gunmonkey Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 How long does it usually take to get on with PHI? I have been waiting for two months... is that usual? Can I expect it to take much longer? I also have an application in with ERA and I wouldn't mind getting on with them in their SAR mission. Either one would be great at this point. I'm turing down jobs in hopes to get the call and I can wait it out for a while, but how long is a realistic wait time? I have a passion for flying and I am eager to get on in the GoM. Can anyone give me any guidance? Quote
gunmonkey Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Would it do any good to take a drive down to their headquarters and hand carry a resume? Is there any chance of speaking with someone from HR that way, or would I just get run off? Quote
rotornut67 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 My thoughts have always been..."what have I got to lose?" You can't lose something you never had in the first place. I say go for it, but that's just me. I have never been one to set around and wait for something to come to me. I had rather go looking for it. Quote
