Hand_Grenade_Pilot
As I'm sure many of you are aware, a tour helicopter operated by NY Helicopter experienced a mechanical loss of power over the Hudson River at approximately 15:58Z yesterday (Sunday). The pilot successfully initiated an auto-rotation, deployed the emergency floats, and safely touched down on the river. No injuries, helicopter intact. While something such as an engine failure is never a good thing, it is refreshing to see a pilot demonstrate good flying technique and ADM in an emergency, with a favorable outcome. Kudos points to Mr. Campbell. Liveatc.net Audio Archives:http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php?m=nyc_heli_twrSunday June 30, 15:30-16:00Z, at 28m39s into the recording. arotrhd
Kept a cool head and good EP execution. Met my definition of a professional pilot. -WATCH FOR THE PATTERNS, WATCH FOR THE WIRES-.
Little Bird
Great to see this, true professional.
zippiesdrainage
Losing engine power over the city would have been a nightmare. Glad to see that he made it to the water safely. This guy makes all of us look good. On a similar topic though...

Nearly Retired
Gentlemen, the guy in the L-model is a professional pilot, trained and paid to handle things correctly. Yes, yes, fine job, son, attaboy. But *we* should expect nothing less from his performance (at least he didn't have a 125 foot "water run" or something).

And lets also add that if this wasn't on the Hudson and if ol Sully didn't kill some geese out there then this would've never even made a blip on the news, maybe the local news but nothing more. Engine failures happen all the time and people land just fine and walk away nearly everytime.
