Hello. I have an interview scheduled with Air Evac Lifeteam Base Pilot Supervisor position. I have two questions. One specific and one general. Does Air Evac have a training obligation/payback period? (I know I'll find out at the interview, but I'd like to know in advance.) Generally, does anyone have any experience with Air Evac, good, bad, or indifferent?

I've been waiting to see a response to this one myself. After two weeks not a single Air Evac pilot out there that can give insight into pilot employment, quality of life, work life, overall impressions? Aside from Air Evac I'm also interested in the same info regards Lifeteam (not Air Evac Lifeteam but the one based in Newton, KS). Any info on either of these operations is greatly appreciated. I'm happy to provide contact info if private communication is preferred. Hate to make blind decisions when there is a wealth of experience out there.

1. No

2. It's the best I've worked for, and that covers a long time.

I've been away from the board for awhile, sometimes life intervenes. I don't spend every hour of every day here, I just drop by from time to time. It might be the same for others.

Your insight is greatly appreciated Gomer! Didn't mean to raise your hackles or suggest it is your sole responsibility to stand by and answer questions on the board. Sometimes life choices come at us fast and I don't live in a region of the country to stop by bases and knock on doors in person. Again, thanks.

Gomer Pylot,

Thanks for your response. It's good to know that at you think they're a good company. I have read many more positive reviews for them than negative. I did go interview and was offered the position. I subsequently accepted. So, I begin my new hire training in O'Fallon soon. I'm excited about it. This will be my first flying job not related to the Army. After retiring from active duty I started work as a contractor at Fort Rucker teaching flight school students. So, I've either been an Army pilot or contracting for the Army. I'm eager to try something different. I think EMS will be challenging and rewarding, with a good measure of boredom mixed in while waiting for a call. :-)

My hackles are down and relaxed. I was just explaining why you might not get a quick answer to a post. I don't know if there are any other AEL pilots on here. This isn't the most popular forum on the internet, by far, and it's mostly students and military. You may have to wait awhile for answers, so just be patient. :)

Anyone have any experience dealing with Mr. Fanguy? What was your experience? Any tips on dealing with him regarding employment at PHI?

What are you going to do if PHI offers you a job?

I would jump on it. Do you know something we don't ? If so, kindly spill the beans !

Edited above post to clarify...

Congrats on the job. I am kinda wondering why none of the other pilots at the base took the supervisor position though? Generally hiring a guy right off the street with no EMS experience right into a supervisor position doesn't happen often.

I never worked for Air Evac Lifeteam, and I've been at my base for 13 years, so my answer may not be true for everybody:

Lead pilot/base aviation supervisor is a job that nobody volunteers to fill. The supplement is insufficient for the time, work and responsibility required.

Velocity173, I do not know the situation there. Ultimately, I was interviewed and hired as a regular line pilot.

HEMS with a 206 airframe at say, an arbitrary operator. ------- loaded down with med gear and crew=no tower in or out capability almost always. Panel generally has VFR only set up with possibly a panel mounted /dash rigged GPS which will be very limited in IIMC ,No NVG capability (cockpit lighting mod and goggles). NO auto pilot/copilot or sas of any kind. NO second engine.

Combine with

operational profile for HEMS

Extremely tight LZs most of the time with day/ night operations ,verying weather conditions, and launch from potentially 0000-2300 depending on your shift
