Guest rookie101 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I do beleive this gentleman- Pilot Matthew Cobba- has posted here before under the ID of 'mattcob'. My prayers go out to his family and to the co-pilot's family as well. Truly a discouraging, disheartning event for everyone. The link below goes to some of mattcob's various posts here on the board, something of a memory refresher for those of use who can't recall him being here. http://helicopterforum.verticalreference.com/helicopterfor...sult_type=posts Quote

dlo22 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 This is another sad event that seems to be happening alot around the media, kindof discouraging for newer pilots that are training to hear about all of this stuff. Especially when everyone you talk to, reminds me of "how dangerous helicopters are" I wish these guy the best of luck in their recovery, and hope all is well with their families. It is also nice to hear that the pilots did not have life threatning injuries. The people in the helicopter crash in Hawaii were not so lucky, in a much bigger bird too, with a pilot that has more than 10,000 hours in A stars. One thing I thought about when I read this story was.......... Man, how would you feel if you had just wrecked a helicopter, and you were laying in the dirt in pain and agony, Then you see the med evac helicopter comming into get you. That has to be a weird feeling to jump right back into a helicopter, after you just crawled out of a wrecked one........ Question::: Generally speaking,, what do you guys think the overall survival rate is (Not being killed) when you crash a helicopter, lose an engine in flight, or roll a helicopter over on its side... That is saying, if you took all of the helicopter crashes in the world, and took into acct all of the deaths and all of the survivals. What do you think the answer would be, with a general overlook. not helicopter type specific. Quote
