deanathpc Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I just called the office of my local AME. Being he is also does surgery at our local hospital his schedule / availability for a physical can be tough. Now I won't be ready to start training until sometime next year, probably later at the rate I'm able to save money right now. As I understand it these medical certs. are good for 2 years. So I am under the assumption that I should probably wait until I'm about ready to start my training before I go through the process? Or should I start it just to be sure I won't have any problems getting my medical? Not that I'm expecting anything wrong but don't want to spend a few thousand on training to find out they won't give me a medical and have to stop training. Any thoughts? It's going to cost around $60 for the exam ect. as his secretary has stated. Thanks again! Quote
helonorth Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Just schedule it anytime before you start training. If you are under 40, a 3rd class medical isgood for three years. If you are thinking career, get a second class medical, and after a year youstill have private pilot privelages for 2 more years for training. Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 helonorth is correct. Wait. You can actually wait until after you start your training to make sure helicopters are actually something for you. You don't need the student pilot certificate (which is also your first 3rd class medical) until you solo. Quote

Just not sure exactly when I'll be able to start training as of right now. I thank you both once again though! Quote
Goldy Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Or should I start it just to be sure I won't have any problems getting my medical? OK, lets do the exam now. You apparently are breathing, you were able to type several words coherently in a sentence. You were able to stand when you came thru the door..YEPP. CONGRATULATIONS you have now passed your 3rd class medical. That will be $60, the doctor prefers cash. Good luck on your training. Goldy Quote

Goldy lol Nice Goldy! Still giggling over that one... So what about paperwork? Is there something / anything I need to take with me for this process? Quote
helonorth Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 (edited) Picture I.D should do it. The exam is not actually " if you can put fog on glass your in" typeof deal. Most type of prescription drugs, blood pressure, diabetes and a lot of other thingscan disqualify you or delay issuance while Oklahoma City sorts it out. Edited November 1, 2007 by helonorth Quote
deanathpc Posted November 1, 2007 Author Posted November 1, 2007 Picture I.D should do it. And not one from the Post Office wall I presume? lol j/k Thanks! Quote
slick1537 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 My school will usually have you get a class two medical before you start flying. The reason is if you wait until you solo, then find out you cannot pass your medical, all that money is down the drain. Quote

Better to be sure and save all of that money for something. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 If you're giving all the money to the school before you even start training, then you're probably not smart enough to pass the medical anyway. Quote
deanathpc Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 With you again GP Thanks folks... I have a couple more demo flights to do to help determine where I'm going to train and once that is done I'll go for the exam and attempt a class two right from the start. Quote
