Entry Level Jobs

What are some entry level jobs for a pilot with 1000 piston hours... besides offshore oil work? I'm guessing tours.. anything else?

My goal is to do some utility work.. anything in this field for entry level.. or how do you work your way up?

With around 1000 hours PIC you have several options.

Tours in the Grand Canyon(some seasonal some not)

Tours in Alaska (seasonal, Temsco and others do tours and long line work. You may be able to start with them doing tours and after some time, get into long line and utility).

Get on with a utility company flying as SIC(no real pay, not much flying)

Work in the Gulf doing offshore

3,000 hours you can look to start to qualify for EMS and ENG

slick1537,

Most ag operators and more importantly their insurance companies like to see at least 500hrs of AG time. 1000 is even better. doesn't make a whole lot of difference how much total time. It is possible to get started but it helps considerably to know someone or have an ag background.

Ag is a handful most of the time, even for the experienced guys. low level, wires, heavy, etc, etc, etc.

There was a great post awhile back about it. I'll try to find it and repost.

EMS companies usually want you to have at least 1500 hrs before they look at you and they also usually desire a certain number of hours in turbine aircraft. If there is a way you can get your turbine transition or build up turbine hours it would be of great benefit to you, enhance your resume, and open up more opportunities.

I don't think there is an EMS job out there for less than 2000. DO NOT SPEND A DIME ON TURBINE

TIME OR ANYTHING CALLED A "TURBINE TRANSITION". Sorry, just had to get that of my chest.

Unless you want to go logging, not much out there besides tours and the GOM. TEMSCO pay

is an insult. I wouldn't even consider it. Try www.jsfirm.com.
