Retreating Brain Stall Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 This is a nice outcome, pretty hairy environment to fight for a forced landing area. Good job getting her down. Love the eggshell design for protection and this is what insurance is for. http://q13fox.com/2013/08/13/helicopter-crew-looking-for-pot-gardens-crashes-in-oregon/#axzz2bsqAIHIa 1 Quote
Whistlerpilot Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Holy cow, good job Tommy! I worked with him in 2010 in Alaska he was my Chief Pilot and I remember doing some excellent auto training with him. He would roll the throttle off early or late and it was all about range variation to get to the spot. Obviously his excellent auto skills came in handy for real. Very glad to hear you and your px are OK Tommy. Impressive piloting!! Quote
mausermolt Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I grew up in Burns Oregon near to the accident. Calamity Butte where the accident occurred is a horrible place to have an engine quit. Tall trees and nothing is flat. He did a superb job of putting it down on the road. Best outcome one could hope for in a tough situation. 1 Quote
ridethisbike Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 He also probably has a butt load more experience too... just sayin Quote
Nearly Retired Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 He didn't have a 125ft run on either... Whoa. That's cold, man, cold. But I did laugh, I have to admit. I know, I'm a bad man. Quote
