My buddy flies a 44 out of Merritt Island. I used to live down there. What 44 work you got going on down there?

Is his name Dwight? There is another r44 on Merritt island but I don't know the pilot. Flies a yellow r44?

I'll be flying tours out of the Port by the cruise ships.

I just moved to Oregon from Cocoa Beach, got my private pilot rating at Bristow in Titusville about 6 years ago and I just moved here to start training commercial at Hillsboro Aviation. I grew up in the area and it's a pretty nice place to live. If you have any general questions about it, feel free to ask.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you continue to train at Bristow?

Bristow is not accredited and not VA approved. Plus I wanted to get away and live somewhere else.

Wow. They were last year. I think things are taking a nosedive, there.

Best of luck to you on the west coast!

I think maybe a clarification is needed. Not accredited and VA approved for Post 9/11 GI Bill would be more accurate.

Accreditation - http://www.heli.com/helicopter-training-school/3-accreditation.php

Chapter 30, 1606 still good to go - http://www.heli.com/student-services/8-veterans.php

All that aside, yea... a place as big as Bristow still doesn't have a Chapter 33 program !?!?!!!!?

Two cents worth - Its a good school. I got the feeling along with a few others I know that its all about the EASA (formerly JAA) guys. They come on a Visa that expires. They get hired and work for a little bit and then go home. So now they can hire the next guy on a Visa and advertise "we hire XX% of our graduates". Meanwhile, while I was there doing my Instrument (originally planned to go through double I) there were 6 or 7 FAA guys calling on the Chief Pilot every day trying to get a job. Meh, probably more like one cent worth.

Not to burst your bubble, but that's how Hillsboro is ran as well. It's more catered to the foreign students, even more so than the Veterans.

If you find that Hillsboro doesn't work out for you and you want a great nearby school that offers a great VA program, contact Leading Edge Aviation in Bend. You won't be disappointed. Best wishes flying in Portland!
