fleman202 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I just updated my logbook after spraying this summer and found out that I hit the magic "1000 hrs" pic last flight! Does this mean I get a pay raise and my choice of employment now? 1 Quote
Flying Pig Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Oh they didn't tell you? The magic bar was moved to 2000 last month. Sorry. 3 Quote

fleman202 Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 Crap. I guess ill just keep slaving away for peanuts then! I figured a memo like that would have come through in the vertical daily news bulletin! Quote
aeroscout Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 It's more than enough time to go tuna fishing. Quote
eagle5 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 It's more than enough time to go tuna fishing.Don't tell him that! They said they'd have to go through all the more experienced guys before giving my 700 hour butt a shot. I don't need any more competition! Quote
Carpenter Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Oh, and don't forget about the fact that all of the Vietnam era pilots are retiring. The job market is going to be blown wide open and then a massive pilot shortage is expected to appear anytime. Are you excited? 1 Quote
eagle5 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 The OP's a 1000 hour pilot now. That old wives tale sales pitch no longer applies to him, he's now semi-emplyable...well at least in Alaska and the GC. 1 Quote
fleman202 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 You can have tuna fishing! Ill stick to crop dusting and remote sensing for now! 1 Quote
rotormandan Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 1200 hour pilots are fighting to drive a truck at ag ops. Quote
fleman202 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 I was given an awesome chance to start spraying at 500 hours. Quote
eagle5 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I was given an awesome chance to start spraying at 500 hours. Yeah, because the 1200 hour guys are fighting to drive trucks! Quote
rotormandan Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Fleaman, you got it made. Any other job you do will be boring after spraying Eagle, my judge of internet sarcasm may be off but it's true. At least somewhere. At my company there's a few of us pilots that got between 1000-1200 hours as cfi's just to get a job driving a truck. Still now, some of the loaders now are ex cfi's as well. Took about 2 years before getting hired as a pilot vs being a driver/apprentice. So ya, that magic 1000 might get you a cdl and a truck driving job Quote
