  1. Talk to James Newton at the Peter O. Knight airport (TPF) by downtown on Davis Islands, he owns Vantage Aviation.
  2. Ha, well one of the many things instructors need to be ready to prevent!
  3. I think its great practice. I do this with students at least once before their first solo. This has been in 300C/CBi and Cabri G2. Most people have an urge to pull back the cyclic to slow down, but really at that height just accept the forward speed, touch level and straight, the cushion is usually seems easier to manage - seems to float longer. In the Private PTS, it allows demonstrating this task this way for the examiner (though who would choose to?) "A. TASK: POWER FAILURE AT A HOVER REFERENCES: FAA-H-8083-21; POH/RFM. Objective. To determine that the applicant: 1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to power failure at a hover. 2. Determines that the terrain below the aircraft is suitable for a safe touchdown. 3. Performs autorotation from a stationary or forward hover into the wind at recommended altitude, and RPM, while maintaining established heading, ±10°..." It's good to do also before full down autorotations.
  4. "As announced some time ago, we have just qualified and certified an upgrade for your favorite helicopter that allows higher power setting at low altitude. While no mechanical modification has been made, extensive work in analysis and testing was carried out to prove the ability of the Cabri transmission and engine to cope with the increased power. According to this new certification, the maximum power is increased from 145 to 160 hp, limited to 5 minutes and 30 knots. This provides an extra margin for take-off and landing under 3800 feet (PWR mode). Please note that the increased power setting cannot be used when flying on automotive gasoline....We are delighted to announce that this SB and the associated parts kit (a flash card, a sticker and a Flight Manual update) will be provided free of charge upon order, to every Cabri in service."
  5. From Guimbal: https://www.facebook.com/FlyCabri/ "Great news! The 160 hp take-off power upgrade is now certified in Canada!! 😎🚁🎉 All Cabri worlwide can now enjoy an extra 15 hp for take-off and into the hover!" Also article from Vertical Mag when the US made approval: https://www.verticalmag.com/press-releases/guimbal-cabri-g2-gets-better/
  6. Ah yes I remember seeing that they "acquired" one back in February but I see now that the Vertical article says they take delivery mid 2017.
  7. Yes, check out Revolution Aviation as they now offer the Guimbal Cabri G2 to use for training along with Robinson's products. More schools are starting to use it but they're the only in California so far I believe.
  8. FAA Helicopter Flying Handbook Aerodynamics, performance, helicopter hazards, maneuvers, etc. http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/helicopter_flying_handbook/ FAA Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge Basic aerodynamics, navigation, weather theory and services, airport operatons http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/phak/
  9. Brim Aviation and Ascent Helicopters are a couple that use them.
  10. Pilots, local aviation entities, and community members are invited to join precision for a fly-in and industry day at Chehalem Airpark (17S) on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Come explore and share what aviation has to offer in the Pacific Northwest. There will be airplane and helicopter ride as well as plenty of BBQ food and drinks. Also, come check out the first Guimbal Cabri helicopter in the U.S.
  11. Looks like you'll need a time machine.
  12. Heliops' forum is pretty dead, take look at the Rotorheads forum on PPRUNE: http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads-23/ for the generally more European crowd. Finishing training at that time was pretty tough for a lot of people over here too. You need: Stay persistent, Keep networking, and again, Persistence.
  13. Here's a thread that's been following the Cabri from early on from over on the Rotorheads forum http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/296022-guimbal-cabri-g2-31.html
  14. Columbia landing one of their 234s at 17S when they needed some extra space at Aurora (UAO) for a couple days. Schwiezer 300C we just landed after a lesson.
