Hovergirl Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I did a search and found it, though I believe it said previous experience nec, and definitely at least one training course (of course). But a more general question, on behalf of hungry young CFI(I)s out there, where are the good places to look? Vertical Reference (of course )Just HelicoptersAny list of flight schools in your area for contacting... Any opinions on others? Quote

captkirkyota Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 HG- There are a Ton of pilot employement sites out there, everyone uses a different one. I think if you just Google it you will come up with a bunch more...94,000 hits to be exact ! a "ton"? I've looked myself and yes there are some more sites, but the 5 or so I've found, only JH ever has anything for low time pilots. JS Firm never has low time positions ( I've never seen them at least ) helitac and heli ops are always foreign license type jobs. Google is frustrating to look because it leads you to monster dot com and others that want you to join and then lead you to again, non low timer type jobs. So I too would very much LOVE to be informed of any other specific sites someone may know of, BUT, what I speculate is that since this is such a small niche of the heli jobs with a large number of low timers eagerly looking DAILY, one would not be as forth coming with a place so as to not hurt their own chances. So any of you vets out there who have in the past found any sites or sources for low time jobs, PLEASE feel free to share.BTW, how did people find low time jobs before the internet? Seems publicized resources would for more local jobs, but what do I know? Should I take the 1 hour 1 way trip to the A.P. to pick up a paper and if so how often do they come out so I don't waste a trip. Dang I hate the fact that I now live in the boonies. Quote
mrjibbs Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 or you go to this page and apply here: http://www.coloradovertical.com/web1_078.htm Colorado Vertical has a good opportunity here, but the only downside is they require every applicant to attend one of their commercial/Mountain courses which run another $5,000 so probably not very appealing to anyone except one of their graduation students. If you guys are like me i spent every last penny i had getting to where im at and so spending another 5k on a course just to be conisdered for a opening isnt very feasible. Also, just an FYI for anybody thinking about this, i did talk to them and they said its a part time position, expect only about 5-6 hours of work a week.... Quote
kodoz Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 There's also http://www.copterjobs.com/. Not a thing on there for anybody with less than 1000 PIC tho. Quote
Tenacious T Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 220 is nothing for an R22....... Maybe not but it would be with a student on board. He sounds like a good candidate to be a 300 instructor. Most schools would not consider a candidate that heavy to teach in an R22. As far as this thread goes, I just got my first big break and all I can say is that there is no magic trick to finding work as a low time pilot. It just takes a lot of networking and persistence. Collect email addresses, make phone calls, be involved in aviation even if you are not flying, and don't give up. Most low time opportunities won't be advertised by anything but word of mouth so don't count on seeing them on copterjobs.com etc. Emailed resumes get ignored a lot too. The best thing is to show up and introduce yourself, the next best thing is a phone call. Have a nest egg too in case you have to fly somewhere suddenly for an interview or move across country and get an apartment. Quote
mechanic Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Way back in umm, think 93 or so B206 jobs were advertised as having to have 5000 TT min to apply. I remember seeing a few in my Paw In Laws fixed wing mag's with 10000 TT min to fly a B206!!! Times are better but still hard. I have had to give up.. for now. Networking, meeting as many pilots as you can, visiting with them, even maint personnel know of jobs too. Good Luck with the search. Quote
