Name Dropping

I guy I flew with once told me to go to a particular operator (who wasn't hiring at the time) hand them my resume, and drop his name.

 

So how exactly do you go about doing something like that? I can see dropping someones name if I'm already in an interview, but going in cold turkey and uninvited?

 

Any experiences with this?

I got a side job like that once. I called the guy up and said "Bill told me you might be looking for someone and told me to call and see what you have going on."

If it's feasible to show up in person, I would do that. If not, there's nothing wrong with a phone call.

I probably wouldn't recommended that, but ya never know...lol
