You could go to the Whirly Girls banquet on Monday night. It's where the hot heli-chicks hang out. Are you man enough to join the Whirly Girls Auxillary for $25? The banquet cost $65, good food, good fun, great networking!

I would recommend ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney. It's a liitle touristy and not my normally first choice, but it's walking distance from the Convention Center and all shuttles lead to Disney. They have decent food and a very large bar area.

Ummm, I'm thinking we do a hostile takeover (VR style) of either Morton's or Ruth's Chris.

If not, ESPN is definitely crawling distance. +, for those who haven't been to DD, a lot of fun & eats & sights in close proximity.

SMS before show, Safety Challenge Tues & Wed, floor Thur and Adv. Op Mgmt after show.

That is a good suggestion. Ruth's is probably even closer, but very high end. I was trying to keep the pilot on a budget in mind. As long as you just drink beer (or water 😉) it won't be overly expensive. There is also a Joe's Crab Shack a few blocks away near most of the hotels.

Joe's might work for everyone if cost is a factor, cheaper drinks at least :)

Cost? Aren't we all overpaid pilots? Money to burn?

Getting in the evening of the 23rd, leaving the morning of the 28th. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. i have a very busy schedule, but look forward to getting together.

Send me an email if you want to connect… i also have a few VR pins left and will have them with me, if you want one let me know. Sorry but i can't remember the donation, i think it's $25 as of last year.

McGavin, Being the local, does the place you're recommending take bookings? maybe we could get a rough number and make a reservation? I'm for sure coming and bringing 2 others, we should be onsite by 7:30-8pm once everyone's flight arrives and we get the rental sorted and get checked in.

I think I'll be talking for a bit at the Goodrich Rescue Hoist Users Conference the day prior to the expo and I have family in Long Beach so the night doesn't matter to me. I'll also probably be bringing another pilot friend along for a quick beer.

I know the places already mentioned do take dinner reservations for large parties, but I'm guessing most people just want to hang out in the bar where reservations are not needed. Football season is over and Monday night shouldn't be too busy. I think we can make it happen without reservations as long as the first person on scene grabs a few tables for the group.

Sounds good. So are we decided that it will be ESPN zone (again, don't have a clue about where everything is, we are staying at the Holiday Inn). Being that the welcome reception is until 8:30. should we say 8:30-9pm for those who will go there first?

ESPN Zone at 8:30 sounds good to me. Im not going to the reception so if anyone wants to meet up earlier for dinner, Im game for that too. How about 7:00?

Count me in!

I can predict a few that will be there.

Wopilot:

I accept your Radiator Springs invite and challenge you to a race. I'm throwing down the pink slip on this race and need co-pilots to assure victory. 5 spots available first round. Who is with us?

If anyone knows a bird that needs to fly in, or do demo flights from the show, you can PM me as we will be handling all incoming birds and all demo flights for HAI...

Seriously folks, Goldy is THE MAN. I'm not going to be too surprised if he makes his 'Expo entrance hanging off the hoist from Air 5. If you haven't met him, meet him. One of the best network resources there is. And 'elluva nice gent, too.

I'll be attending for the first time, newly arrived and legal and soon to convert my CPL.

I'm curious about the job fair, is this something you should arrive for when it starts and stay all day? Or just pop in for a few hours? Are there booths set up where you stand in line & wait to talk to various companies or is it like a giant cocktail party of meeting & greeting?

Thanks!

Posted

When I was there in 2011 the job fair was in a rather small room and was pretty packed with people standing in line at the booths to talk (especially the PHI booth). Last year it was a very large room and with only six to ten booths there it seemed like a ghost town.

No need to stay all day. I popped in a few times throughout the day just (in between seminars) for a few minutes to see if there was anyone new (or anyone interested in low timers) I could talk to?

This will be my first time to the Heli-Expo. This fresh new CFII is stoked to meet you guys, network as much as I can and try my hardest to get employed! Anybody have any general recommendations for the week?

Im pretty stoked!

Ross,

Make as many of the Rotorcraft Safety Challenge courses as you can. They are all free, pick and choose what you think will be valuable.
