Teljkon Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 (edited) So I currently figuring out my weight issues is there a max weight for the helicopter program in any branch of the armed services. As the weight for the R22 doesn't take to heavy guys it limits my doing CFI training even if I do get my commercial because you only have the option of taking care of the smaller student pilots. r22butters Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 (edited) I don't know about the military, however, I have seen some job ads for EMS and Tours, that limit weight to 200lbs. Its a tough world for those of us who like to eat. If you want to go the CFi route, you might want to consider training in an Enstrom. The job choices may be more limited, but competition should be as well. Edited June 19, 2010 by r22butters Quote
RagMan Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Start looking into schools that operate the 300. Those aircraft can pack a bit more weight than the R-22s. Quote
Teljkon Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 (edited) is that a Shweizer 300 or or a Hughes 300 they look almost the same idk much about types yet and even a search on google images and you tube show a few different types of helicopter. Its seems to be the classic the public don't now jack about aircraft problem and there are a bunch of things miss labeled. Its not just liking to eat for me I think 190 would be border line unhealthy for my frame. my minimum would be like some where just over 200 Edited June 19, 2010 by Teljkon Quote
Lindsey Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 It used to be a Hughes, then a Schweizer, and now it is owned by Sikorsky (but is still a Schweizer). Schweizer 300 is common terminology for it. Quote

I would think that after you complete all the physical training in the military, your weight won't be an issue. But I did find this:http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armyjoin/l/blintweightmale.htm Quote
Teljkon Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 IDK what my body fat is but I now that im never going to hit thier wieghht of 195. For 72" with my age bracket I may be only 6 feet but im also 3 or 4 feet from shoulder to shoulder . Quote
SBuzzkill Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 (edited) If you are over the weight limit they just tape you. As long as you're within their acceptable tape limits you are fine. There are lots of guys over 195 they just aren't fat. Edited June 20, 2010 by SBuzzkill Quote
Teljkon Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 Could you define " Tape " is it a mesure of body fat percentage?? Quote
IWannaFly Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 For males, they compare neck size to waist size. A lot of people beef up their necks if they have a hard time making weight and then they pass tape. Blake Quote
Teljkon Posted June 23, 2010 Author Posted June 23, 2010 seriously folks do that if you think about it. Its preaty funny the size of your neck to your waist. I have a real image of some one with a sand bag on thier head and thier ear on thier shoulder doing reps. Also is your name Blake?? Quote
IWannaFly Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Haha. The sandbag thing really isn't that far off. Yep. My name's Blake. Blake Quote

FLHooker Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Blake #2, I signed into WOCS weighing 203 and i was in damn good shape. Just my normal work out routine keeps me about 215-220. I fly a Chinook. Pilot's weight means nothing to this helo. I always pass 'tape'. Chad #1 Quote
