How many hours on average would you say a person has before getting their PPL?

I know the minimums say you need at least 40 hours total. So what is considered average? how many did you have when you passed your checkride?

I'm currently at 41 hours and was told I need another 13 hours total. Which would put me at 51.1 hours total time. Is this average?

40-60 is pretty average. However,I'm curious how they came up with exactly 13 hours. Did you miss some requirements along the way? Does that time include the required 2 hours prep flying prior to the checkride?

I have 5.1 hours of solo. So I need another 5 hours solo and they want 8 hours dual for prep for the check-ride.

I was just wanting to make sure what they told me about 50-55 being average. I'm currently at a part 141 school as well.

I got mine at about 52 hrs. Everyone else that went through the same time I did got theirs anywhere between low to high 50s. I'd say its about average. Good luck.

Just to help you out, 41 plus 13 will put you at 54 hours TT, not 51.1. Still think its pretty normal.

100 hours from now nobody will really care how many hours it took you to get to private.

Are you staying there to get your commercial/inst.?

I finished my PPL ride with 42 hours. Our school prides itself on having most students take an pass their ride in the low 40s. Everyone is different, however. We've had students take it in the low 50s, and we even had one poor bloke who got to 70 hours and had yet to solo. All he wanted to do was solo, but he just couldn't cut it. He was in his 60s and lacked the motor control...

The highest I've seen personally was 70 hours, but that student only came in once a week and never did his reading. I have no sympathy for someone who doesn't apply themselves and he obviously didn't.

Keep in mind, you can get close to 60 hours and would still be able to take your CPL ride at minimums. Don't let it get you down, everyone's different.

As a side note, whats the average hours where students solo? We get most everyone solo by 20-22 hours (R22)...
