Taking.the.High.Road
Hello Everyone Firstly, I'm thrilled that such a forum as this one exists. This community has been more helpful than I have ever imagined. Although I have never posted until now, I have reaped a lot of benefits from this community that might've been elsewhere unavailable. Ive been exploring the option of flying helicopters pretty heavily for the past couple of years whether it be civilian or military. Considering my financial status, military seems the more realistic route for me. However, from what I have read, it seems more Warrant Officer Pilots have been getting pretty low PIC hours / year. I struggle with beginning my packet because I wonder if after my 6 years of time, will I even have a respectable amount of hours to take with me. So ultimately, I guess my question is one to all current Warrant Officer Pilots and any who may also have some enlightening knowledge. I very much understand that every persons situation is different, as well as differing locational needs. I know that we cannot attribute one to the whole or the whole to one. I DO NOT expect a concrete response. Just some insight from people who would know better than I about the CURRENT status of a Warrant Officer Pilots yearly PIC hours. Thank you,-Matt
SBuzzkill
Who knows... It all depends on your community, your duty station, timing, etc. Some years you'll fly your ass off, others you wont make minimums. It ebbs and flows. In the 58D world, most guys I've talked to getting first look for W3 this year are between 900-1500 hours depending on whether or not they got a deployment to Afghanistan or Iraq. Some less, some more, but none that I know of are past 2,000 hours. It used to be common with deploying every other year but not these days. I haven't the slightest idea how much any of the other communities are flying. Frankly I don't care, I've loved my job and while it isn't a time builder it certainly is an experience builder. I'm sad to be leaving the big Army, but I have a little bit more time ahead of me flying old green machines before I'm off to do something new in the civilian world. If you can swallow the pill that flying is only part of the job then you'll do fine. Edited May 19, 2016 by SBuzzkill
Rob1237051
It depends and it's impossible to quantify/average. For three months I was making less than minimums, then I got 25 in four days. For a month and a half I didn't fly, then I got 67 in 30 days. I'd expect at least 12 a month if that helps.

Dbargs
What are the minimums? Does it change based on assignment/airframe? Seems like nobody is doing worse than 200 a year.
CharyouTree
What are the minimums? Does it change based on assignment/airframe? Seems like nobody is doing worse than 200 a year. Depends on FAC level. Blackhawks as high as 96, for your first two years out of flight school (minimum).
Velocity173
What are the minimums? Does it change based on assignment/airframe? Seems like nobody is doing worse than 200 a year. That's because a lot of them were flying before the current cuts took over. I did 12 yrs and 3,880 hrs. You're not going to get those numbers today. hoosier
There are an insane amount of variables in flight time. Its feast or famine. I know two dudes who i graduated with at the beginning of 14 and they are 750 and 1000 ish. I know other guys from the same time frame who are 350. Picking a first duty assignment where you can fly your ass off like hondo or korea then make pc and go to your next unit as an untracked PC ready to be abused for everything the senior guys dont want to do and it will help build hours faster. akscott60
90 hours per year is the FAC1 minimum for the CH47F, plus 24 hours of sim time.
