Any apache pilot can fly a 60/47 with minimal transition training... Not all pilots can fly 64s, so I've been told

hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha.

sigh. Seriously?

The green eyed monster is the only thing I know that washes people out, and that is fairly rare.

"Not all pilots can fly 64s." That makes no sense. If that was the case they'd always take the top percent of the class and they'd have the highest washout rate. Just not true. My class, the bottom 11 were all forced into Apaches. Out of 13, only 2 picked it. It goes in cycles. Some (like myself) could only think about 64s and nothing else. When i started flight school it was going to be either 64s or 58s. Never even thought about 60s and 47s. Funny how things change.

I know it seems like we're hard on each others airframes but whatever airframe you get, just go with it. Who cares if you're flying 47s or 64s? Once you select that airframe or in some cases, the Army selects it for you, just make the best of it. That aircraft now instantly becomes the coolest helicopter in the world because you're getting paid to fly it. Then you go out and buy a stupid license plate with its picture on it. :)

When I was in we all had our little clicks where each airframe's pilots hang out together. That doesn't mean we didn't realize the importance that others play in the big picture. I couldn't do my job without 64s and 58s providing escort. Heck, I might not even be alive today if those guys didn't have my back. Mutual support. That's what it's all about.

No sh*t. In flight school people get all gung ho, and opinionated and even really bash other aircraft. After a while in the fleet, no one cares. This whole time I have been here at AQT I have been hanging out with Apache guys.

The funny thing about flight school is that nobody has a f*cking clue what their mission really consists of. I always stayed out of those pissing matches because at the end of the day I was happy to be flying anything. I'd love to hop back in an old A/C and fly TDH from RT to RT all day. There is a little bit of ribbing here and there but at the end of the day we expect the other guys to do their mission well and they expect us to do ours well and whenever anyone screws it up it hurts everyone regardless of airframe.

One of your former SP's who just went XP and hated the bag. It's not as easy as you think it is. Sure, most can learn to "fly" system, but fly it well is a whole different ball game.

What do you guys mean by different breed? I met a lot of apache pilots on deployments and they were pretty chill, but most of the ones I met were prior enlisted - a lot of them are from what I have seen. The marine cobra pilots were for the most part very pretentious c***suckers unless you are pulling them out of a wreck or you are their rescue guys. [Don't mean to offend anyone - this has just been my experience - a lot of Marine cobra pilots are d*cks even out in town when youre having a beer with them]

This is hilarious.

Everyone sees how cool the apache is, it looks cool, it's mission is cool. They have saved me multiple times while I'm trying to land in very shitty LZs. That being said, apaches flight time doesn't translate well to the civilian world. You are orbiting, conducting security or doing the attack mission.

Besides, not everyone wants to be a gun guy, some people like the lift mission.

Oh and just to add to the "it takes a special breed" comment... That is false, it takes a special breed to be an Army Aviator, Rucker teaches you to fly the damn thing based off of a random oml then you go to a unit where you are a cherry PI for about 2 years. So all this crap about "it takes a special breed" is some horse sh*t fed up your ass by b co or the 64 flight line.

I typically don't name call other airframes why? Because all airframes have their great pilots, their dirt bags and their douches.

I find the pilots with the least experience always bag on the other airframes the most, Rucker students that have yet to be put in their place because the IPs have to get them through their phase of training so they can graduate with their whopping 20 hours.

Yeah... Tell me where you're at in your flight training again?

That was told to me by a cw4 IP. Not my words as I posted in the original comment.

I was just messing with you, don't worry about it. I would say that base/mission tasks on a UH-60 are proably "easier" compared to a 64, but I've not seen to many 64 guys that are up on instruments like the lift guys are. I think each airframe has its challenges.

I'm practically an SF apache god at this point. 😜

^^^ LOL.

The people that talk the most trash about other airframes are Apache (or wanna be) guys.

😂😂😂 it's all out of fun and games... In the words of "viper" from top gun, "remember, at the end of the day, we are all on the same team"

It's not that it takes a special breed or "top of the class" to fly apaches. It's just a slightly different aptitude than other helicopters. Not harder just different and it was impossible to guess at the beginning who was going to wash out. We lost four out of my class. And as for changing airframes you can go from apache to Blackhawk without go to Rucker. But not the other way. Or at least you could seven years ago. Don't know about now and don't know about Chinook.
