mausermolt Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 What would be your dream job? Out of enjoyment not income. Mine would be Heli Hoging. Flying around shooting hogs (gunner or pilot) just sounds like it would be a BLAST! 2 Quote
CaptainDune Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Long lining bambi buckets fighting fires for this guy. Quote
gary-mike Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Flying a helicopter!.... Maybe once I get a job doing that I could be more specific, for now flight instructor would do. I plan on starting school this spring or early summer. I would have to say flying for Matt Wright being an Outback wrangler would be fun, hard work but fun. 1 Quote
Spirit of '69 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I've always wanted to shoot approaches to some skyscraper rooftop landing pad, somewhere warm near the ocean, dropping off the bigwigs and their entourage. Quote
Gunner Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Police and combined EMS mission.... Oh wait... Already doing that so i guess i have my dream job.... And its certainly not for the income... 1 Quote
aeroscout Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I met a guy who worked for a casino in Vegas as a corporate pilot. He flew a citation. He also had a pitts, a floatplane amphibian, and a couple others in the same hangar he flew for the owner. I would love to have a similar setup, but at least one had to be a helicopter. Quote
Trans Lift Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I love the powerline work I am doing now but I think it would have to be flying that Victoria's Secret helicopter (for a while anyway). 1 Quote
NorCalHeliKid Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Got the dream job covered, theres no dream pay here though.... Quote

avbug Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 My ideal job has always been the one I'm working right now, at any given time. My favorite aircraft is whatever I'm being paid to fly at any given time. 4 Quote
Spirit of '69 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 i get that avbug. there is nothing like being at the controls. every minute i am i consider myself fortunate. still working on the getting paid part! Quote

JCM5 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 High altitude heli ski/snowboard ops But like avbug...flying in any heli application is my dream job. Quote

There's the romantic approach, which takes a spiritual view on the process, but mine is more practical. I've been doing this professionally for several decades, and frankly, I fly for a living because I can't afford to rent. Quote
Spike Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 While for some, the dream job is the one they currently occupy, mine is the one on the horizon. From what I’ve seen, helicopter folks tend to have a nomadic inner core. That is, always wanting to move on and try new things in different places. Unfortunately, most of the time, fear holds us in place. Fear of not being able to get that next job and pay the bills. Soon thereafter, we age and find lives which diminish our possibilities….. Some have said I have the best job in the world, but alas, it’s not nearly my dream job. It’s just the one I have now…… 1 Quote
Spirit of '69 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 well said. healthy fear protects us from harm, but most fear as we age prevents us from reaching our true desires. heli pilots ride the flat of the knife in a lot of ways. its our responsibility to not get cut. Quote

An accurate definition of dreams has to include nightmares. No thank you, a real world job can be tense enough. Quote
achfly Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Owner/operator? of a tour and charter service. Something small. Owning a business can be very stressful and even more so in aviation I would imagine. But the freedom it offers just might be worth it. My father has had his own excavation outfit for over twenty years. It never made him rich and it gave him high blood pressure. On the other hand it also gave him the chance to spend a lot of time with me when I was in my teens. Would I be the same person with out that experience? Now I have a son.... Quote
