I'm going to have to agree with the A-10. Its the only modern aircraft I've ever pined for. I've been in a P-51, cramped and hot in the back seat. It had dual controls but not the enlarged canopy like "Crazy Horse" Velocity flew in, and I'm tall so it kind of sucked.

I've flown the M-8/17 and although they have crazy power, they feel clunky like and old tractor, but then again they're easy to fly and work on like a tractor. I fly the Huey, Cobra, OH-6 and HH-43 Husky for a museum and except for the wow factor, the Cobra isn't near as much fun as the light OH-6. In the era of hydraulically assisted flight controls, AFCS, etc the Little Bird makes you work every second your flying. I fly my WWII biplane upside down every sunny day I can get.

I've got a J-3 Cub that was the first airplane I ever owned, and I still love it like it was a Mustang.

So, my favorite of what I have flown is still the venerable, old Huey although the HH-1K variant we have is my favorite cuz' it's a B model fuselage with a Cobra engine blades and tail and it's a very maneuverable 135kt screamer.

A-10, I'll never get to fly an A-10 and I think about it every time I see one taxi by or fly overhead.

My true dream flight will be my first flight in an aircraft that I own.

Soon after that you will be dreaming of "the day you sell it" flight.

I went old school Mike. I flew the Collings Foundation P-51C "Betty Jane." Basically the same price as Stallion 51's D model but I didn't have to travel to do it.

It was definitely a bucket list ride but I could tell he was babying the thing. I didn't mind though. At $150,000 for an engine overhaul every 1,000 hrs, they've gotta make it last. 34" MP and 2,400 RPM yielded 220 KIAS. We hit 275 in the loops. I had heard the controls were stiff and sure enough they were. My Glasair rolls faster and is lighter on the controls. Still nothing compared to the 407 where you think the turn and it's doing it. Best part of the whole ride was getting a good NON FORMATION view of their B-17 on the way home. That alone was worth the price of admission.

My next bucket list ride would be CF's F-4 Phantom. Unfortunately I'm saving for an engine overhaul so the 12.5 grand Phantom ride will have to wait awhile. :)

So.. Alright...did a bucket list tonight. Took my mom for a flight to let her enjoy seeing me do what I love. Granted it was in a rented R44 but none the less....IT WAS MOM! Had a great flight and she got to see our state capital, BSU stadium, and some great mountain scenery with a sunset backdrop. Not bad!

I want to land so smoothly that I have to wake the passengers up.

Velocity,

That 51C' is a better deal, and a very unique airplane. An acquaintance of mine (John Sausedo) flies it during the office season when he not crop dusting. I flew in a D and was awed by the raw power but surprised how slow the controls were especially when the airspeed built up. Nothing sounds like a Merlin though!

This will sound cheesy, but IGAF. My most memorable flight was taking my paternal Grandfather up in a Cessna 172 about 13 years ago. I just had my private, and he was a WW2 B17 pilot turned 30 year Captain at Pan Am on 707-747. He has flown just about everything that can fly.

It was his first time at real controls in a long time (He was a sim IP at AA on the 707 at the time).

He slapped me on the arm, smiled, and said "Let Grandpa try". And we flew around having a blast.

So I guess I already had my bucket flight.

I can agree with this. After getting my rotary PPL the first flight I did was to take my father (a career pilot with 15,000 hours plus) up and after all the times he had flown me around, I got to fly him around. He is a die hard aviator with his own airplane so I know it was a huge moment for him to have his son fly him around. It was big one for me too. Will probably be my favorite flight of all time.

Well, since I have already flown the helicopter I dreamed of, I guess I have to pick a plane for my last flight.

I've never been one to settle, so I am going to need 4 fuel stops for aircraft swaps.

I was a sudden fan the first time I saw one "Yank and bank" and can imagine the work down where flying is visceral.

Nerd. Does the Army have those? I think i read somewhere there is a militarized version.

No the U.S. Army doesn't. At least not in "regular" units.

The USAF flies the U28 which is the military version of the PC12. I dont think the Army does.
