SemperGumby Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Haha 19,200 lb sling load. That's awesome. And here I am doing PPCs for ~17,000 GWT for progression. I know they've tried before but it would be interesting to see an AH-47 with a AC-130ish set up. High orbit, raining down hate and discontent. Quote
stearmann4 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 In 2006, the colors and "Go-Go" callsign was officially passed down to A Co, 4/160th at a ceremony in Huntsville, AL. We landed an MH-47G next to "Easy Money." We host the surviving "Go-Gos" at Ft Lewis and the company bar every year for their reunion. I'm Go-Go #1 2 Quote
SemperGumby Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Had this guy in WOCS who wanted the 47 from the get-go. Great guy. Needless to say, the whole class cheered when he got his pick for the only 47 slot for that selection. He always affectionately called it his "Murder Wagon." I get it now. Quote

Wally Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Congratulations AKScott. I'm not a bit envious, I only put it on my wishlist in '69 because I couldn't spell AMOC. Quote
akscott60 Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) Today was my first day of F model academics. Holy acronym overload, Batman! Plus the F model is magical. So many DAFCS modes, FD modes, etc. Control laws are different. The aircraft just needs a data card loader and an Easy button for the ground force commander and it would fly itself. Pretty sure Staples carries those. I'm jealous. Quote
Joepatriot Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 As a former 60 CE/mechanic the more I read about the D/F models the more I want to fly them. 22 weeks and 1 PT test before I have to decide. Plenty of time. Quote
akscott60 Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Its pretty cool. It only has one VOR which still blows my mind, but oh well. Quote
Flim Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Crazy... one Vor? I know there are plenty places to put antenna's on that thing! lol Ah, you have GPS now... who needs Vor's. Quote

akscott60 Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 F doesn't have an IFR GPS??? No, it is not IFR certified. Corruptible database. The D model had an IFR certified GPS. We do have TACANs out here which is cool. Quote

Same thing they did with the 60. A/L have an IFR GPS and then they come out with a Mike model with all the bells and whistles minus an IFR GPS. Quote

Next CAAS software block is supposed to fix that problem, and all the other weird little things CAAS doesnt do now. Quote
Joe_P148 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Yes, but you can still use and fix GPS waypoints, you can use the GPS enroute structure but are required to switch to a primary navaid source at the IAF. It can also be used as DME. It's a work around for now. Some IE's font like that Awnser and it really depends on your stands section. 1 Quote
Flim Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Use it, but say it is not primary.... switch to green needles once your established on the approach. That is how we usually do it in my aircraft. Is there an MFD in the F? screen with the fixes on it from the FMS? 1 Quote
Velocity173 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I never thought the 128D was needed much anyway. You're not flying that great of a distance where RNAV direct would make much of a difference. The training guide states "one of the greatest design features is the ability to fly non-precision GPS approaches." That's great and all but you've got little GA aircraft doing precision GPS approaches everyday. Done several with my Garmin 480 to Podunk airports in the middle of nowhere. Quote
