Talon64 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Does any of the army helicopter inventory have ac? 1 Quote
apacheguy Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Medevac UH-72 and VIP transport UH-72, TH-67, AH-64A/D/E. Those are the ones I've flown anyway. Are you interested in the micro-climate cooling vests? Quote
Yamer Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Wait, you've flown a 64A? I thought the alphas didn't have crew a/c... Just for the efab... Quote
apacheguy Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Yep, did the A model AQC back in 2001, just prior to 9-11. Went to OIF 1 with an A model battalion. Those birds had great A/C, used to spit ice chunks out on my kneeboard As I recall, the EFAB is what the Longbow has, the A model has the FAB. But the A/C flows the same, from the condenser-compressor thru the FAB/EFAB into the cockpit. The Longbow lets you set a specific temperature for each pilot, the A model didn't have that feature. d10 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Medevac 60s only have AC for the cabin. You could have it running full blast and it might change the cockpit temp by a degree or two. Quote
Joepatriot Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 The A+ I flew today had A/C. It was glorious Quote
Yamer Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Oh, that must be the difference I remember then, climate temp control. Oh well. And yes deltas have efab and alphas have fabs Quote
Jon B. Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Every helicopter I've ever been in had a large fan attached to the roof. Seems to work ok. 6 Quote
Hobbit64 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 -64A airflow was back seat, then front seat then through two 'FAB Fans' into the FABs. The FAB fans were right by your ankles. If memory serves, there was a plenum/distribution system in the FABs for the boxes. That's what you'd see when you pulled the boxed and look behind them. Why I remember this, after 12 years, and have trouble with EP's & Limits in my current rides, I'll never know. I wish I could reformat my noggin and dump this useless trivia. Quote
Velocity173 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Of course you have the micro climate vest as well. We were hard so we didn't use that crap. Actually I think we were just too poor to afford them when I was in. Quote
d10 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I don't think anyone used that in Afghanistan. Too heavy. Quote
Velocity173 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I don't think anyone used that in Afghanistan. Too heavy.Yeah I've heard of a few units that used them in Iraq but I don't think it was widespread. It was hot there but I'm not sure I would lug that thing around either. Just carry a cooler full Gatorade and hydrate. Never thought doors off made much of a difference. Quote
Hotdogs Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Whiskeys got A/C....and when the system works - it's amazing - multiple times I have had ice chunks fly out from the vents into my face/helmet. A/C is routed and ventilated through the seat as well. Quote
nskojo Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 We used it in Iraq, you don't lug anything around the unit was hard mounted on a tray in between the CE seats, the cords run out to you. Doing ring routes in Iraq it was a luxury as only a few of the aircraft had them Quote
