Spike Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) Normally I would agree with you! ...but not with this one! Its one of the few that actually is clear! Okay uncle, I was the one misinterpreting the regs. I apologize for hijacking your thread…. However, I will never be found logging night (between evening civil twilight and 1 hour after sunset), while carrying passengers and not “night” current. But hey, that’s me………………. eagle5 Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Okay uncle, I was the one misinterpreting the regs. I apologize for hijacking your thread…. However, I will never be found logging night (between evening civil twilight and 1 hour after sunset), while carrying passengers and not “night” current. But hey, that’s me………………. I wouldn't begin a flight after sunset carrying passengers without being night current myself. However this thread was just about a hypothetical what if situation, because sometimes sh*t happens,...and I wanted something other than WOFT to talk about! I think only one person "kinda" actually answered it?,...oh' well? Quote
helonorth Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Never say never. I fly almost 99.9 percent of the time during daylight and have for quite a few years. If it ran late one day, I could imagine the possibility of forgetting. Would I kick out the passengers and do three take offs and landings by myself? I'll be honest, probably not. I would if I was at an airport but I sure wouldn't do an off airport landing in the dark and in an unfamiliar area to meet the requirements. To me, that would expose myself to more risk than continuing with the flight. There also has been a debate that you theoretically could pick it up and set it down and call it a take off and landing. The reg is not specific about what you need to do in between. I'm pretty sure I remember the FAA agreed, in a helicopter at least, you were meeting the "letter of the law" but not the spirit of it. But that's a whole thread in itself. I carry nothing with me that shows currency, anyway. Quote
eagle5 Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Whenever I take passengers up I keep a copy of the last page in my logbook which shows currency, just in case I ever get ramp checked,...if they would even care to ask? Quote
Flying Pig Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 You go 90 days without changing pages? Quote
eagle5 Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) You go 90 days without changing pages? Its just a shrunken copy I keep in the back of my kneeboard, and its just for night currency, so yeah, just make a new one every 90 days (from my last night flight). apiaguy Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I personally think it is ridiculous to carry unneeded info with you in case your "ramp checked". Never give the government more info than you are legally responsible for 2 Quote

Never give the government more info than you are legally responsible for It may not be the government! It could be your boss checking up on you? At my old school every so often the owner would make a surprise visit to the ramp to check up on his CFIs and/or solo students! He would also sometimes sit out of sight to make sure we were actually pre-flighting! ...but to each his own? Quote
useless Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Whenever I take passengers up I keep a copy of the last page in my logbook which shows currency, just in case I ever get ramp checked,...if they would even care to ask? I'd recommend you stop and I agree with the guy below. I personally think it is ridiculous to carry unneeded info with you in case your "ramp checked". Never give the government more info than you are legally responsible for I've been ramp checked where the inspector wanted to verify paperwork from the prior flight... My reply, "You showed up too late. It's in the trash, you want it? Help yourself" I did take some pleasure in the inspector's displeasure when he fished the flight release out covered with mayonaise and mustard. He was being a jerk about whether or not I actually had signed the paper though. I find this thread kind of entertaining and slightly naive. Did you know under part 121 a pilot making a night landing in a widebody after a 10 flight might not have made a night landing in the previous 6 months and it's perfectly legal as long as he has 3(day) in 90? You're seriously worried about 5 minutes here or there and contemplating kicking passengers out to do a few laps? The state of Alaska would be happy if they could get more than 60% percent of their actively flying pilots up there to just get a license let alone maintain night currency. Regarding ethics, aviation is lacking significantly. The number of people on a worldwide basis flying on faked or non-existant licenses is incredible. Don't stress too much. I wouldn't waste much time pondering silly scenarios either. There are girls outside to chase. Quote

No one is worried about 5 minutes here. The question stated that you had 5 minutes left to fix your mistske (if you chose to do so), not that it was just a 5 minute flight! I'm not stressed about this at all,...just bored! You guys really know how to take the fun out of hypothetical questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
rotornut67 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Sounds like a good interview question to me. Quote
