mcclainm Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I'm reviewing the current WOCS packing list. I understand that I'm required to have all the items. Did you have time to go to MCSS and buy everything and have it altered? Being a Reservist going to AC, I never got two sets of ASU trousers, and I was not issued a Gortex. I'm also looking to just buy a fresh jacket, and need to have it taken in. I understand being required to have the ASU item, but am I required to purchase a Gortex based solely on the fact that its on the packing list? Seems like (a lot of) wasted money to me. Quote
Jon B. Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Gortex should be an issued item. I would think that going through your supply channels you'd be able to pick issued items up somehow. I'm going to have to buy some things on that list if I get selected (ASU trousers), but issued items I would think you wouldn't (shouldn't) have to buy. Quote
UH60L-IP Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Yes, you will have time to go to clothing sales prior to classing up. Despite all the hoopla and threats, I don't know of a single instance of anyone ever being refused entry into a class because they didn't have one of the items. In fact, it's highly unlikely that anyone is ever going to inventory your gear or make sure that you marked your underwear. Don't fret. Try to make sure you have all the required items. If you don't have some stuff when you arrive there is time to go to clothing sales. If clothing sales doesn't have it, the TACs probably already know there's a shortage anyway. Quote
apacheguy Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I doubt you even can find the Goretex to buy, that's a CIF issue item. Quote
Jon B. Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I doubt you even can find the Goretex to buy, that's a CIF issue item. This is what I was getting at. It's not a cheap item to replace either. Quote
mcclainm Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 This is what I was getting at. It's not a cheap item to replace either. I'm changing components, and even if it was issued to me, I have to turn in all my OCIE/TA-50 when I leave the Reserve Component Next week. Quote
Jon B. Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 If you're going AD, you should get a CIF issue. I understand it's not something you had before, but it should be taken care of going active. It's part of in-processing. Or am I missing something else altogether? Quote
01CelicaGTS Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I didn't have a goretex and I was fine. You won't be able to wear it anyway until you go to the field. Like IP said, they won't check to make sure you have every single item anyway, unless it's supposed to be on display. Quote

Yamer Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Was there any items you realized after you go to wocs that, "man I wish I had brought that with me." Quote
2ndGen Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 For me it was quite the opposite, "why the heck to I have all this stuff?" Do not worry about the packing list, when I left, they were not doing a shake down. Have all the stuff that is to be displayed only. You'll get gear issued at Rucker, if there is something that you do not have, i.e. your ASUs, you dry cleaning slip hanging it there place will suffice. Quote
I3uller Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Don't worry about gore tex, not everyone has them so you just use the issued cif wet weather gear. Quote
mcclainm Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 What is cif?Central Issuing Facility. Most posts have a place where you draw your required gear that you have to have. Body armor, ruck, etc. Quote
brackac Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 In this day and age of reducing numbers, increasing standards, and drawbacks, I would have every single thing on the list. Regardless if I needed it or not. Quote

Cantankerously Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Was there any items you realized after you go to wocs that, "man I wish I had brought that with me."Bring extra soap and toothpaste and stuff. Clothing sales and the Shoppette have a limited selection. Bring an extra laundry bag....everything else you'll get issued. Quote
USCav19D Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Ah, that would explain why such essentials as the IBA and Camelbak aren't on the list. Quote
