Apply at the local courthouse some counties have a seven day hold before issuing you a permit. Fees vary but their all cheap. Open carry is also legal in alabama.

Do they require you take class of any sort?

Or just your orders for out of state residents? Thats how it was in wyoming. Just show mil id, orders, and pay the fee.

Just show Id and pay the fee, no class it's $20 a year in my county and you can buy up to 5 years upfront. Alabama is very pro 2nd amendment. I've got a decent 3 gun course in my backyard.

And where do you live? haha.

You can also get a FL permit in the mail in about three weeks. Military ID will suffice as "training required". FL permit is good in AL as well as 38 other states.

Hmm, I need to look into this. Been eyeing a Glock 19 for awhile now. Do you have to be a FL resident?

If so you can get the Alabama one cause its accepted in pretty much all the same states... basically any carry permit is good anywhere you go except the crazy states a.k.a the West Coast and the North East.

In order to be allowed to receive a concealed permit from an out of state resident, you have to have active duty orders to the state. Unless if concealed is already allowed as in arizona.

G19 is a solid choice. I believe you have to be a resident in the state that issues you the CHL, but as others noted, many states have reciprocity agreements.

Keep in mind you're eligible for the "Blue Label" Glocks now. Good discount. I prefer the 17 even with my huge mitts. It's easier to conceal as well.

In addition to being a resident of the state, most counties require that you be a resident of the issuing county as well. States don't issue CCWs. Counties or cities do.

Never heard that before and definitely not in Texas. It probably varies by state and assuming CCW is conceal carry weapon, how/why would a city or county or a state issue those to people? I can see how that would be true for LE, but not the concealed handgun license for everyone else.

That's how it is here not sure why. Whatever county your drivers license shows is the county where you purchase your permit. They even vary by price and appearance by county. I'd just keep my Texas permit if I were you, but your orders and ID should allow you to buy one here.

I had one from wy that was honored in TX. But just expired. And tx requires a class etc. So im gonna wait til al. Wont need it right away anyway

You don't have to be a FL resident. However (even though the permit doesn't specify whether or not you are a resident) there are some states that don't recognized reciprocity for non-resident FL permits. AL is not one of those states.

I use the the following two websites before traveling with a pistol:

When I got mine it wasn't this complicated... I just went to the Sherriff station and said "I want a concealed carry permit." $20 and 3 days later I was good to go.

Since you technically live in AL, just get the AL permit. Otherwise, you can apply for a WA(or what ever state your from) permit, most likely through the mail. Like stated before AL has full reciprocity so a WA permit is valid in AL. For permits requiring proof of training (like in LA for example) your military ID will suffice.

As for the gun, a G19 "may" be a little to large to actually carry concealed, and I'm not saying that because you are a girl, or any of that other sexist crap you hear in gunshops. I'm just speaking from personal experience because I have a hard time carrying a G19 comfortably. I usually elect to carry my G26 or even my new G42(soo small). I sell guns to women on a daily basis, and a G19 is by far one of my best sellers to both men an women. Hell, I own 4 of them! It is a great gun, and perfectly fills that gap between compact and fullsize.

When you go to purchase it, make sure you go to an FFL who is authorized by glock to deal in military and LEO Glocks. Not some guy who has a sign out front that says "military discount". Go to glock.us to find a Glock LEO dealer in your area and buy it from them. You will need your military ID to qualify for blue label (the label on the box is blue because they are mostly sold to cops), and a copy of your PCS orders so that you are able to purchase a handgun outside of your state of residence. Being that you would be buying from a blue label dealer, presumably somewhere near the base, they will be familiar with selling blue label to .mil.

The price difference is significant between retail and blue label. Retail on a G19 Gen4 is about $549 plus tax in my shop. My cost is somewhere around $465. The Blue Label is about $425 WITH tax!

Ironically, I'm not looking to carry concealed with the G19. Just want to use it at the range. But, I'd like to have the CCW just in case I change my mind later with a different weapon.

Rgr that, then the 19 is the gun for you IMHO, or an M&P.
