I'm about a month out from leaving for Rucker, and have not yet received the vaunted "welcome packet" from the WOCC. I found a copy of the 2013 packing list, but nothing newer. Has anyone come across the 2015 version? If not, I'll give HHC a call and see if anything even changed.

I'm trying to figure out if the new APFU uniform is authorized while at WOCS. The packing list I've found makes no mention of it, and I know that they're obviously available. I also know that TRADOC has its own niggles and ways of doing things to maintain uniformity... any insight would be helpful.

Disregard. Called HHC and got the straight dope.

Just like the rest of the Army, the APFU is authorized, as is the new OCP/Scorpion pattern.

I was just gonna post and say I've seen them mixed when washing cars recently and I just saw, today, the first guy on base wearing the new OCP/multicam. Whichever he was wearing. He stood out like a sore thumb.

The candidate I spoke to on the phone said the same thing.

Was he a Guard guy per chance? I can't imagine finding Aviation Center patches in OCP is easy. I've heard that coloring the UCP patches with a yellow highlighter works wonders, but something tells me a TAC would frown upon that...

I have no clue, I was driving and he was WOCing in formation from the gas station back to the barracks. He had a wonderful snowbird rank on though.

When do they start selling them here at Rucker? July or September?

The ALARACT says Rucker is Wave 2, so I believe that'd mean September.

Anyone know if the shitty GI brown towels are regularly stocked at the MCSS? I see a whole bunch of them on Ranger Joes and Brigade QM, but I'd rather get them at AAFES and know that they are the correct dimensions.

Yes and at the PX, and at the gas station...

Thanks. I'm deathly afraid of showing up and them being out of stock. How much time is given to candidates to hit up the MCSS before classing up?

The Walmart brown towels will do, they are cheaper too I believe. We had a whole mix of different shades of brown towels and they don't measure them.

Good to know. So they aren't anal about measuring things? I've heard the opposite.

The stenciling is more to find your own stuff when it gets chucked down the hallway

They'll measure your folds and rolls, not the overall size of the towel or shirt.

Depends on when your orders put you here. I'd guess 2-5 days?

most all of us had 10ish days. Have in process post day after day for a week. All the WOFT did, some just WOCs had 1-2 days.

Signed in on a Sunday, classed up two Tuesdays later? Maybe Monday?

Well I'm over a month out until I head to MEPS for my final paperwork. I show up there on the 6 August, I'd guess end up at Rucker on the 7th or 8th? Class starts the 18th. Sounds like I have plenty of time, I just hate leaving things to chance.

Oh yeah, one last question for now. I know they convert enlisted ASUs to officer before graduation... Does this include sewing the gold braid on the trousers? I have one pair with the braid, and one without, and I'd much prefer to save the $87 that a new pair costs.

Yes they'll include that. It's the same as taking what you need done to an alterations shop. Except the shop comes took you. They'll itemize what you need done or want done. They even do ACU sewing if need be such as name tapes or badges.

Ive got two here with me in BCT and we all have start dates on the 18th so ill see you there. BCT as an E5 is just as bad as the first time around, other than they gave me back my cell phone a couple days ago. And they are paying me alot more than the privates.

First one that has a WOCS date to PM his address, Ill ship all my W01 stuff to: shoulder boards, acu, hat, whatever I still have laying around.

Those shoulder boards are like $60 by themselves!

You'll have plenty of time. The guard/reserve guys show up on the report day. That is when things get hectic.
