dezark69,

I'm currently in WOCS. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to answer. I only have my phone on Sundays and Wednesdays.

My basic was 6.5 years ago, but I'd say no. I usually run a 8 min pace, yeah I know I'm working on it, and I've been pushing myself to stay in the formations. I'd say they run about a 7 to 7.5 pace, however I'm sure all TACS are different. I wouldn't sweat PT as long as you can pass the PT test

I graduated on the 22nd. PT was not difficult. Formation runs were closer to 7.5 pace and we always started out faster than we maintained. All they want to know is if you care enough to tough it out.

Hey gents, I've got a question thats just been eating me up inside. I've been selected WOCS/WOFT (shipping on Jan 29) and I've read in several orders that were expected to have a full issue of uniforms. I'm an interservice transfer from the USMC and do not have a STITCH of Army uniforms. My question is, will I be issued the uniforms I need while at HHC or am I expected to buy them myself before I leave from San Diego?? Thanks in advance!

You will check-in, in civvies, they will get you the proper paperwork. Take that to clothing and sales, they'll issue you as close as they can to a basic issue (I only say that because a lot of people did not get everything and ACUs have been sketchy in the past). Then get your name tapes made and have them sewn on your uniforms.

No more Velcro tapes?

You can absolutely use Velcro, but its ugly and stupid, and you can't put the Velcro on your uniforms prior to the duty day. So all your uniforms will sit in your wall locker without tapes. If they are sewn on, you're only putting your rank and tab on.

Also if you have been deployed, don't put stuff on your uniform that requires you to wear a combat patch, its just one more thing that makes stuff more annoying.

Haha ya I have airborne wings and a CAB but was planning on just not wearing any of it at WOCS so I don't have to deal with the pins being perfect all the time. So you're only authorized to sew on the Army and name tapes now? I should really read up on this stuff before I go.

If one thing is sewn, it all has to be sewn, including your PC. If one is Velcro then it all has to be Velcro and pins

You do not have to sew them on, just makes it easier. I wouldn't worry about the CAB, that requires you to wear the combat patch. Just saying.

First off, this thread has been incredibly useful thus far, and I thank everyone for keeping up with it and offering great advice.

Second, I report on 2 Feb for the 12 Feb Class, and I did have a couple questions for those that have been through in the past couple months.

1) The Rucksack is on the packing list, however Ft Stewart's CIF eagerly removed that from my possession. I am assuming that this will be issued to me during in processing to Rucker, but I wanted to make sure. I have time to "acquire" one if I need to.

2) How do the 10 days of snowbird status go before the actual class starts? The family wants to watch the Super Bowl with me, but I want to make sure that is doable. In talking to guys who have been through in the past couple years, they said you have free time nights and weekends, but it is the Army. Sh*t changes.

3) In regards to the packing list. Would you recommend bringing "additional option" items (for example, 2 extra sets of uniforms instead of just 4?), or leave the extra crap at home to keep it simple? I tend to lean towards keeping it simple. Less things for the TAC's to toss, and for me to keep track of.

4) Is there anyone on this board attending the same class? The reason I ask is twofold. A) I will be renting a storage unit for the duration, and if you brought extra stuff you don't have a place for, I am happy to help. I certainly won't fill the thing. B. ) Open invite for a beer. I am getting in on the 30th or 31st to get the storage squared away and get my bearings before I sign in.

That is probably it for today, unless I discover something else!

Thanks in advance

There's a group of us that are all in that class and have a Facebook page going for it. PM me your Facebook and I'll add you to the group.

With the exception being rank, yes?

Since you will switch from subdued to un-subdued (and possibly back and forth)? This is how I understand it (and how I set up my uniforms) based on the WOCS FAQ document on the WOCC page:

"Q: Are sew-on skill/identification badges, the US Army tape, and name tapes allowed on the ACU during WOCS?

A: Yes per ALARACT Message 230/2011. However, ensure you do not remove the Velcro rank attachment on the ACU coat since you will need it to affix the WOC insignia. Furthermore, do not sew on the WOC insignia to your ACU coat. When you transition from the intermediate phase to senior phase of training, you will remove your subdued WOC insignia and attach the non-subdued WOC insignia (using the Velcro attachment)."

blah blah blah

1)you will designate an S4 officer, they will get you everything you need prior to pick up, most of us didn't have one, you will get it from HHC, not rucker CIF.

2) snowbird status is annoying, as far as when you have free time, if you don't start WOCS till the 12th you will certainly be free in the evenings up till then, and probably a few days after.

3) I'll just say anything you bring clothing wise must be displayed. Four sets of cays is more than enough. I could have done it with two.

If you sew stuff on don't sew on the WOCS rank or anything on your PC.

I would say to definitely study it. If you don't pass the test, you'll end up in a 7 week course and if you fail a test in the 7 week you will be eliminated from WOCS. We had 2 eliminated because they failed DL and then failed a test at WOCS.

1) How hard are the academic tests?

2) What would you(or anyone) say caused those people to fail the 7 week WOCS test in the quote above?

3) A friend of mine who I graduated college with just selected 60s, according to him there is plenty of study time for any graded test, is this true?

4) Given that due diligence is applied and any study time is taken advantage of, are academics something that people normally struggle with?

The academics side of WOCS is a relative unknown to me, not sure what to expect other than the vagaries of what Ive heard... Thanks!
